Invenio within the NRGL: Version 1.0 and More News

Both digital repositories maintained by NTK (NRGL and IDR) are powered by the open source software Invenio. Its great flexibility allows us its continuous development and adaptation to our needs. This year we added several features that make it easier to work with the repositories - for example, we improved the search, presentation of records, and added export to various citation managers. Following the release of new version of Invenio, we also created a new freely available installation script, that facilitates the installation and basic configuration of the system to those interested in creating their own repository.

Invenio User Group Workshop 2012

Náplní cesty byla účast na mezinárodním semináři Invenio User Group Workshop, který se konal 7.-9.5. 2012 ve Výpočetním centru CERNu v Ženevě. Workshop byl rozdělen do šesti tematických bloků, které vedli jednotliví vývojáři Invenia. Postupně předvedli celou práci se záznamy od jejich vložení do repozitáře, přes úpravy až po prezentaci uživatelům, poslední blok byl věnován systémové údržbě a způsobu vývoje nových komponent. Důležitou součástí workshopu byly také vzájemné diskuse všech účastníků. Výstupem z workshopu je mnoho nových praktických poznatků, které budou přímo využity při správě obou digitálních repozitářů NTK.

Useage of software tools for managing project resources

The bachelor thesis focuses on software support for project managers, particularly on resources and costs management. The introduction explains terms such as project manager, project management and management information system. There is approached the market with software supporting project management in the following part, including a list of selected commercial and open source products, and their subsequent comparison. Work with resources is shown on a concrete project in Microsoft Project Professional 2007, afterwards found an alternative in the form of an open source product Winplanner. The conclusion then provides an overview and comparison of work and functions both of the products with the emphasis on working with resources.

Analysis of applications for finance management of small business

This thesis dwells on comparison of selected applications for finance management and especially from the point of view of functionality and settings. First part of the thesis defines basic constraints and introduces important terms relevant to software and licenses. Consequently in follow-up chapters are analyzed requirements of managers and impact of Czech legislation regarding correct functionality of defined applications. This thesis describes multicriterion options and introduces its own methodology for evaluation of applications. The last chapter of this thesis evaluates applications and interprets the research's results.

Invenio: A Modern Digital Library for Grey Literature

Grey literature has historically played a key role for researchers in the eld of High-Energy Physics (HEP). Consequently CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) as the world's largest particle physics laboratory has always been facing the challenge of distributing and archiving grey material. Invenio, an open-source repository software, has been developed as part of CERN's institutional repository strategy to answer these needs. In this document we describe how the particular context of grey literature within the HEP community shaped the development of Invenio. We focus on the strategies that have been established in order to process grey material within the software and we analyse how it is used in a real production environment, the CERN Document Server (CDS).

CDS Invenio Implementation at the University of Economics, Prague

The aim of this paper is to explain the process of preparation and future implementation of the CDS Invenio institutional repository for the needs of the University of Economics, Prague. First of all, institutional goals are defined and current processes explained. An analysis of the publication activities of VŠE has been done as a part of the testing phase and its results are described. During the testing of the software several problems emerged, and the article describes them. Organizational arrangements form an integral part of the implementation of an institutional repository and therefore the article describes these as well. The paper is based on the experience gained from the preparatory/testing work on this project.

Utilization potentialities of free software and open source software in business

The subject of this thesis is open source software and free software in term of utilization for business. The goal is to provide conditions and areas suitable for using of open source software and free software. The theoretical part gives basic terms, a list of organizations active in this area, classification of free software and a comparison of particular free software licenses. The practical part includes results of two inquiries of free software using: 1) personally made inquiry in Czech firms, 2) Internet inquiry of users. Further, a search of available free programmes has been made -- in term of utilization. The main benefit of the work is an evaluation of business opportunities for free software in particular utilization areas and determination of business models suitable for them. In the framework of this work, the author made an Internet portal on free software - to make the results of the work and external sources available to the public.

Intellectual Property - Case of Information Technology

This theses analyses necessity and legitimacy of existence of intellectual property rights, especially patents and copyrights. There is shown the true essence of these instruments as monopoly privilege. On case of information technology I demonstrate that these privileges are unreasonable and counterproductive in many cases. Analysis of ?free software? alternative model proves that use of patents and copyrights is not a necessary condition of creation of intangible goods. The last part of this work shows, that existence of any special instruments for intangible goods protection is not needed as well as it is not reasonable.

Qeustions of open source licenses in public administration

Cílem práce je poskytnout pohled na celou problematiku open source, především z úhlu jeho využití ve státní správě. Úvod práce se zabývá především pojmem open source jako takovým, dále uvádí nejčastěji používané open-source licence a podrobněji se jim věnuje. Následují teoretické výhody a nevýhody open-source softwaru oproti softwaru s uzavřeným kódem a tuto část uzavírá krátká analýza současného rozsahu využití open-source licencovaných aplikací. Další část se pak zabývá praktickými příklady využití tohoto softwaru ve státní správě, specifiky této oblasti a konečně i vývojem k němuž zde dochází.
