School children ́s nicknames as a part of the school language communication

PhDr. Martina Šmejkalová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The research project deals with children's nicknames from the linguistic and linguodidactic point of view. Nicknames are verbal means of realization of the communication act of addressing and a manifestation of a specific communicative strategies in the classroom. A research of such kind has not yet been carried out in the Czech Republic. We used a questionnaire as a research method. The main research was carried out in two phases and its main purpose was 1.) description and characteristics of 562 nicknames of 8th grade primary school pupils and of the same age group pupils attending "gymnaziums" (eight-year grammar schools) focusing on the motivation of the origin of the nicknames; and 2.) detailed characteristics of 45 selected nicknames focusing on the functioning (perception and experience) in school language communication, from the perspective of the productor (a group where the nickname originated and where it is used), the recipient (a bearer of the nickname) and independent evaluators. To the Issue Anthroponyms

The topic of the bachelor thesis is the analysis of personal names and hypokoristics and nicknames created from them. The aim of the thesis is to provide data on anthroponym status in the current school environment. Due to the field of study, the material was obtained by means of questionnaires, which were submitted to pupils of the second grade of the selected elementary school. The research part follows the theoretical part, which deals with onomastics as a linguistic discipline and defines in more detail the issue of anthroponyms, birth names, hypocoristics and nicknames.

Motivation of Addressing childern by hypocoristicons

This bachelor thesis deals with first names in general, a particular attention is, however, given to their usage in communication, to the familiar modifications of first names and to the motivation of addressing by hypocoristic forms as well as to the origin of nicknames. Within the first part, all the theoretical themes are summarised. The focus is primarily aimed towards the overall setting of the issue within the field of onomastics and the role of antroponyms within the linguistic system. The theoretical part further focuses on first names, motivation of their origin, function, transformation of the repertory of first names and their function within communication, language characteristics and naming motives. The issue of first names is enriched with an interpretation about the usage of antroponyms and their auto-nominalisation and along with a historic development of the shift from single-naming towards double-naming. The key part of the theoretical section concerns hypocoristics, the development of the hypocoristic forms of first names, their usage within communication as well as specific categories of hypocoristics and their language and word-forming characteristics. Contemporary nicknames used among students in selected primary schools around the town of Soběslav

The topic of this thesis is the analysis of nicknames of pupils from elementary schools of Soběslav. The work is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part discusses not only the development of onomastics and its division, but also a theoretical definition of nicknames and their classification. The practical part deals with the linguistic analysis of individual nicknames on selected elementary schools. Excerpted material was obtained by exploratory methods using questionnaire and direct interview with respondents. Collected antroponymical data are classified and then processed on the basis of study of the literature. The aim of this thesis is to obtain information about the current state of non-standardized first names at the elementary level of education.

Family names in the village of Sudovo Hlavno

The subject of this thesis follows the subject of Bachelor thesis, in which the author analyzed the common language spoken in Sudovo Hlavno, district Prague ? east, Middleczech region. The thesis deals with onomastics of this village alternatively of its neighborhood. Object of the analysis is antroponyms, specifically family names and nicknames in the village. The source materials are obtained by list of family names in the village; the nicknames are ascertained by explorational methods like questionnaire and interview. The analysis and classification of antroponomastics data are anatomized in terms of study of special literature and with using of traditional classification process. The intention of this thesis is creation of abstract of the types of the family names and nicknames; alternatively record of disappearing names caused by houses. The intention of this thesis is onomastics contribution of village Sudovo Hlavno.

The intention of this Bachelor thesis is creation of abstract of the names in the village Vír and obtaining of information about types of the family names and surnames.
