Analysis of the success of category A contestants in the Geography Olympiad on the example of the Praha-východ district

The present bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the success rate of the competitors of category A of the district round of the Geography Olympiad on the basis of their preparation for the competition. The model region of Prague-East was chosen for the analysis. The aim of the thesis is how the contestants prepared for the competition and what aspects of their preparation played a role in their subsequent success in the competition. A sub-objective was to find out whether geographically gifted pupils are found among the most successful competitors. These objectives were narrowed down to a number of research questions to which answers were sought using a questionnaire survey and focus group interviews. It was found that the preparation for the competition varied among the competitors. Some aspects of preparation play a more important role than others. A possible deficiency in some students' preparedness may be little or no involvement by teachers in the preparation process. The issue of gifted students in techer training

1 ABSTRACT The topic of gifted and exceptionally gifted children, students, and pupils has been receiving increasing attention in recent years. Both experts and the general public are addressing this issue. An individual approach to gifted students that respects their specific characteristics is crucial for their proper development and support of their potential, but it is difficult to achieve without quality teacher training. The aim of this work is to find out how the training of teachers for educating gifted and exceptionally gifted students is conducted and whether future teachers feel prepared to work with gifted students. In the theoretical part, the concept of giftedness and the characteristics of gifted students are defined. The possibilities of educating gifted students, including the legislative framework of this issue, are mentioned in connection with teachers' training. Furthermore, research and surveys related to teachers' readiness for educating gifted students are discussed in the theoretical part. Problematics of teachers preparations for the education of gifted students

The thesis addresses the issue of teacher preparation for working with gifted pupils at the primary level of elementary school. The theoretical part delineates the concept of giftedness, analyzes the developmental characteristics of gifted children in preschool and school age, legal regulations related to giftedness in pupils, and the identification of them. Furthermore, the role of the teacher and their influence on their lives is defined. The aim of the empirical investigation is to describe the possibilities of university education for teachers in the field of gifted pupils. The empirical section is further devoted to teachers who describe these impacts on their pedagogical practice. The methodological part was approached qualitatively, specifically through content analysis and case study. Content analysis is focused on finding content related to the issue of gifted pupils in the study programs of primary school teaching at Czech universities. Support of gifted pupils in a primary school - a case study

This diploma thesis deals with the possible ways in which the education of gifted pupils can be organized. In the theoretical part, the concept of giftedness is defined from the point of view of official school documents. The next chapter is devoted to the characteristic manifestations of gifted students, on the basis of which it is possible to identify them. The key part is the chapter presenting an overview of possible adjustments to the teaching process, which can be used to adjust the teaching of gifted students. This part is followed by a chapter proposing systemic measures for the support of gifted pupils that operate in the Czech Republic. A case study of the 1st grade of a private primary school is processed, which captures the process of finding optimal ways to support gifted students, the result of which is an action plan for changes in the monitored area. Methods of analysis of school documents, semi- structured interviews with teachers and school management, evaluation and reflection were used for processing. 1 ABSTRACT The thesis deals with the possibilities of pedagogical identification of gifted pupils at the first grade of primary school. The aim of the thesis is to describe what pedagogical methods are used by teachers to identify gifted pupils at the first grade of primary schools. The theoretical part, defines the concepts related to giftedness and pedagogical identification. Furthermore, the theoretical part presents the possibilities of educating gifted pupils according to the current legislation, and the different types of gifted pupils. Following this, identification methods are presented and then possible approaches to the education of gifted pupils are presented. The empirical part of the thesis is focused on the possibilities of pedagogical identification of gifted pupils at the first grade of primary school. For this research the qualitative research method was chosen, namely a case study. The research sample consisted of teachers of gifted pupils working at the first grade of primary school. The semi-structured interview method was chosen for data collection. In the subsequent analysis, open coding of the data was used, followed by categorization and interpretation of the data using the card-layout technique. Working with gifted pupils in mathematical education

This thesis focuses on the didactics of mathematics in the context of teaching gifted pupils. In the thesis I describe in detail the course of individual teaching of mathematics of two pupils - one exceptionally gifted and the other accelerated in mathematics. This teaching process is captured and reflected upon through teaching protocols, with the structure of reflection based on selected didactic phenomena. Next, in the practical part, I discuss the case study of the two pupils, based on a semi-structured interview with the class teacher and my observation of individual teaching. The case study, based on my observation, is conceived through other significant didactic phenomena. In the theoretical part, I discuss the issue of gifted pupils and key aspects of this topic that provide a context for professional knowledge. This section also serves as a description of the background for the design of the tasks and the conception of the whole teaching. I also define important terms used in the practical part. The last part of the paper presents a set of tasks suitable for gifted pupils in their second year of primary school, which is offered for use by teachers of gifted pupils. This thesis focuses on the topic of talent and identification of gifted pupils. The theoretical part explains the concept of talent and characteristics of gifted pupils, their educational needs and problems that may arise during school attendance. Furthermore, the possibilities, methodologies and procedures that teachers and schools can use to support these pupils during the educational process are exa-mined. The second part of this bachelor thesis analyzes the attitude of teachers to the education of gifted pupils. Specifically, it is a quantitative research that was carried out by a questionnaire survey. The aim of this research was to find out how familiar teachers are with the issue of identifying gifted pupils and how they perceive the support of these pupils from the education system. The results of the research are then presented and analyzed in the empirical part of this work.
Teachers Preparedness to Work with Gifted Pupils

This thesis deals with the preparation of early career teachers to work with gifted and exceptionally gifted pupils in primary schools. The aim of the research is to find out how early career teachers are prepared for the education of gifted pupils. The theoretical part describes the issues of gifted and exceptionally gifted pupils in the context of undergraduate teacher education. The theoretical part defines examples related to good practice from abroad. In the theoretical part there are included the possibilities of further education of teachers in this area. In the empirical part of the thesis, the research problem was first set and addressed using a qualitative approach. The design of the research was a case study. The research sample consisted of six respondents. The data collection was carried out through six semi-structured interviews with respondents aged 23 to 27 years and content analysis of the data, which examined the documents of the study programmes of the faculties of education of the universities where the respondents of this research had studied or were still studying. Support for gifted students at eight- or six-year grammar schools

My thesis deals with the education and support of gifted and exceptionally gifted pupils at Czech multi-year gymnasia. The aim of the thesis is to find out how the support of gifted pupils is carried out in multi-year gymnasia we selected and what kind of teaching methods does teachers use when working with these pupils. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part summarizes findings on the issue of gifted students with an emphasis on their characteristics, identification and education. The course of the research investigation is described in the second part of the thesis. The results of the analysis of annual reports and school education programs of selected schools are evaluated here, and the results of the questionnaire survey are also discussed in this section. In addition to the form of support for gifted students at multi-year gymnasia, the connection between the form of support for gifted students with age, length of experience and teachers approval was also investigated. The conclusions of the research indicate that there is still insufficient support for gifted pupils. The methods that were mentioned most often by schools and by teachers are not very suitable for developing talents and supporting gifted students.
