The theoretical part provides an overview of the current knowledge about myofunctional disorders and therapeutic approaches. It covers an anatomy and ontogenetic development of the orofacial area, physiology of speech development, etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis, and possibilities of prevention of myofunctional disorders. The theoretical part also includes an overview of selected therapeutic concepts and part about cooperation with pediatric patients. The practical part demonstrates the use of myofunctional therapeutic concept in the form of case studies of two pediatric patients. A partial goal of the work was create an educational brochure to facilitate self-therapy for parents and their children at home. Kadlecová, Viktorie ; Horynová, Jana (advisor) ; Korandová, Zuzana (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is the use of myofunctional therapy in speech therapy intervention in preschool children. The bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of three main chapters. The first chapter deals with the ontogenetic development of speech, language, and communication. The chapter introduces both the pre-speech stages of speech development and the stages of speech development, the linguistic planes are discussed in detail in terms of speech ontogeny. In the second chapter, we define impaired communicative competence and present its classification in terms of symptomatology and etiology. The chapter includes the most common types of disorders of speech development in children for whom we encounter the use of elements of myofunctional therapy. Special attention is paid to myofunctional disorders. The third chapter introduces diagnosis and techniques and the use of myofunctional therapy in speech therapy intervention. The practical part of the thesis is a qualitative research investigation. The main aim of the thesis was to identify and describe the possibilities of using myofunctional therapy in preschool children with communication disorders. Based on the main objective, sub- objectives and research questions...
Use of myofunctional therapy in people with communication disability
Janečková, Sandra ; Komorná, Marie (advisor) ; Mlčková, Marie (referee)
The topic of this thesis is discussion of usage of myofunctional therapy on persons with communicative disorders. The main goal is to map the extent and possibilities of this therapy in speech therapy practice. The theoretical part deals with physiology and patophysiology of breathing, sucking, swallowing and the orofacial system. Further, in connection with myofunctional therapy it discusses its historical development, methodical approaches, utilities, therapeutical benefits and possibilities of education on this field. The empirical part contains a quantitative investigation, which analyses the extent and usage possibilities of this therapy by speech-language pathologists in the Czech Republic. Based on the data obtained by a questionnaire distributed to speech-language pathologists it can be stated, that about 20 % of the respondents do not use the myofunctional therapy in practice, while those (with one exception) never took part on an expert training. The offer of the trainings is rated as insufficient. The myofunctional therapy can be used on persons with orofacial disorders regardless of age or communicative disorder. KEYWORDS: myofunctional therapy, communicative disorder, swallowing, dysphagia, bite disorders, orofacial area
