Analysis rail market in the Czech republic
Šubrt, Marek ; Písař, Pavel (advisor) ; Zemplinerová, Alena (referee)
This thesis deals with the analysis of the Czech railway transport, which still maintain their dominant position CD, joint-stock company. In the theoretical part I will introduce the concept of the Austrian school of economics on competition and monopoly. According to this concept, the monopoly is formed exclusively by the state through an artificially created barriers to entry into the industry. Subsequently, I will focus on the concept of regulation, which will be based on the ideas G. Stiegler, who has come up with the concept of regulation in the interest of the regulated. Based on the theory of the SBC I will analyze the status of the CD on the market for rail transport. The practical part will be therefore based on the following CD's analyzed position on the Czech market and I will apply theoretical knowledge to the case of Student Agency, limited company (resp. RegioJet, join-stock company), which has vainly trying to promote in this market. I will analyze here how tenders of regions (hence the Ministry of Transport) have taken place and why the above mentioned company hasn't gain access to the railway market in the CR. My goal is on the case of Czech Railways to confirm (or disprove) the conclusions of the Austrian theory that the only way to maintain a monopoly position in the market are government intervention in the form of artificially created barriers to entry into the industry.
The ability of new firms to enter the monopolistic enviroment
Diblík, Petr ; Ježek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dočkal, Dalibor (referee)
The present thesis deals with topic of monopolies and ability of new entities to enter mar-kets where such monopoly is present. For a deeper understanding of this field various views on monopolies in history of economic thinking are mentioned in introduction. In connection with possibility of new companies establishing themselves on the market there is analyzed creation and current practice of anti-monopoly legislation. In this part, certain arguments favoring protectionist policies are impugned. On particular examples it is dem-onstrated that more than privileges from the part of the state it is ensuring of free access to a given field which helps to a starting company. The state should be a guarantor of law enforcement and oversee observation of generally binging rules. In the conclusion of the work a difference is also shown between a situation where a monopoly originates in a natu-ral way as a result of exceptionality, which the clients positively value and a monopoly which exists due to support by state. A new company, as a continuous potential competitor, presents a good-quality feedback for a dominant entity and a driving engine for enhancing its efficiency. A free economic competition is shown also here as an effective tool for de-velopment of business, and it is the consumer who derives major benefits from such situa-tion.
Credit Rating Market and the Current Situation in this Market (Frequent Criticism)
Kolcunová, Martina ; Štěpánek, Pavel (advisor) ; Drahotský, Daniel (referee)
Importance of rating/credit rating agencies' role has recently significantly increased. Rating has become an integral part of the financial, capital markets. Yet this market (i.e. credit rating market) is not subject to regulation (the market works on the basis of a self-regulation principle) which is the fact widely used as a basis for the criticism of this industry in the light of recent events in the financial markets (the collapse of Enron, Parmalat, and other companies, lately followed by a collapse of the subprime mortgage market). The paper outlines the (monopoly) structure of the rating industry in the U.S. and the EU, discusses the new roles of rating in the regulation (e.g. regulation of the banking sector, BASEL II) as well as potential barriers for the market entry. The paper also addresses potential conflicts of interest and lack of regulation which can be observed in the industry.
Nordic countries and their restrictive alcohol policy with a focus on Sweden
Manová, Tereza ; Písař, Pavel (advisor) ; Loužek, Marek (referee)
The Nordic countries are known for their restrictive policies towards alcoholic beverages. For many years they have experienced high levels of alcohol consumption per person. These countries, therefore, decided to tackle this problem by monopolizing the alcohol trade, however, this carries with it many other unexpected consequences such as reduced quality of alcohol, increase in prices, etc. In my work I will try to find out whether these strong restrictions or alcohol trade monopolization successfully lead to the goal of reduced consumption of alcohol per person. The introductory part focuses on a historical search of market regulation -- the advantages and disadvantages, and also industry monopolization, which plays an important role in the Swedish alcohol policy. The thesis analyses the first restrictions that originated in the 1850s, partial prohibition established in 1917 and the current "new alcohol policy". I will try to describe the basic principles, and what instruments were used to set the alcohol policy. The conclusion of the thesis describes what potential changes may occur in the collapse or privatisation of these monopoly sales. The aim of this work is to determine whether this policy has been successful and whether more states should follow it
The protection of the economic competition-the aplication of the economic theories into the practice
Poprac, Aleš ; Chytilová, Helena (advisor) ; Potužák, Pavel (referee)
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to advance the protection of the economic competition in the European Union and in the USA. After the analysis of the historical progress from the beginning of this politic till the present, there will be a closer analysis, which will consider the key differences of the European and American protection of the economic competition. This thesis is based on the theoretic analysis, which goes out from the progress of the economic schools like liberal and interventional way of economics. These theoretical results will be applied to the analytic part of the thesis. The thesis considers many controversial processes, which were solved in the history of antimonopoly law. The author will discuss these processes in the equation of the theory of economic schools. There we will see a lot of mistakes in the rule formulations of the policy of economic competition. In the last part, I would like to focus on the protection of the economic competition in the Slovak Republic. We will discuss the curious process of the antimonopoly policy in this part too.
