Teaching theoretical informatics using the CLIL method
KŮRKA, Martin
This diploma thesis deals with the design, preparation, and testing of teaching a theoretical topic in computer science using the CLIL method. I have chosen encoding and data transmission as my topic. I have created 7 teaching lessons, which contain over 30 activities and correspond to the expected outcomes according to the new framework curriculum for lower secondary education in the field of computer science. Each lesson has a different content focus. The created materials cover, for example the topic of character and number encoding, encryption, the use of the binary system and its limits, bitmap images and their encoding or data compression. All lessons are accompanied by method sheets in English, together with worksheets. The method sheets contain expected outcomes and possible problems that may occur. The lessons and activities themselves are then described in detail in the practical part. Since all the objectives and expected outcomes were met during my testing in practice, my conclusion is that the CLIL method is suitable for teaching the theoretical topic of computer science. However, a certain amount of support in the mother tongue was needed for teaching, which decreased as the students' confidence increased. It was also necessary to provide students with support in the form of visual aids such as worksheets. The most important fact is that during the testing the content was not neglected at the expense of language development and vice versa. In the theoretical part of this thesis, I describe the field of computer science according to the updated framework curriculum for primary education, especially the area of data, information, and modelling. Furthermore, in the theoretical part, I discuss the principles, benefits, and methods of the CLIL method.
Using on-line Communication not Only in English Classes
LIŠKOVÁ, Iva
This diploma thesis explores the possibilities of using international online communication in English lessons at the lower secondary level of elementary schools. In this case, information and communication technologies are intended to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and increase the intrinsic motivation to study the English language by providing an authentic space for communication with foreign pupils of similar age. Cross-curricular themes and interdisciplinary relationships with an emphasis on Geography play a significant role in such communication. The theoretical foundations of the international online communication are studied in the theoretical part of the thesis in order to enhance its potential in education. Key competencies, particularly digital and communicative skills, are discussed. Additionally, pedagogical and psychological aspects of the topic are explored. The practical part focuses on the specific implementation in practice, with the first objective being to prepare, test, and reflect on the activities. The practical part focuses on the specific application in practice, where the activities are first prepared, then tested, and finally reflected. The second goal is to verify whether the activities have the intended effect, especially in terms of competency development and increased motivation.
Using the CLIL method for preparation of selected topics from Human Physiology at lower-secondary level
NOVOTNÁ, Denisa
Diploma thesis deals with the use of the CLIL method in biology lessons and its using for preparation of selected topics from Human Biology at lower-secondary level. The aim of the thesis was to study Czech and foreign literature which is concentrated on CLIL method and its integration into the Biology teaching, further was described the characteristics of this teaching method and were included the concrete examples of using this method in teaching lessons. The main aim of the thesis was to design and verify two teaching units in the field of Human Biology teaching at lower-secondary level. Within each teaching unit students solved a practical task from Biology, and they also acquired knowledge and vocabulary related to a concrete topic. Based on the verification of teaching units in practice was developed methodical recommendations for teachers interested in introducing the CLIL method into their lessons. The analysis of the pupil's worksheets showed that pupils were able to do most of the tasks on their own however certain activities caused problems to them and therefore was needed more guidance from the teacher. The instructions of some activities were necessary to repeat several times due to elimination of possible mistakes in pupil's worksheets. Observing the experimental teaching it was found out that the majority of students did not have difficulty to communicate in English about issues related to selected biological topics and the foreign language was not an obstacle for them in understanding the content of the subject. The important information was told in the mother tongue because of the less language-skilled pupils.
Bilingual education in Czech Nursery Schools
Pavlíková, Lucie ; Loudová Stralczynská, Barbora (advisor) ; Vallin, Petra (referee)
The main focus of this bachelor thesis is to present the issue of bilingualism and early multilingualism. The aim is to examine early second language acquisition whilst implementing teaching methods and strategies of the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) method into pre-primary education. The theoretical part focuses on language development of preschool children and related issues, which are based on intentionally acquired successive bilingualism. It also provides important information on the CLIL method, the basic principles and implementation into pre-primary education, as well as teaching methods and strategies to support early multilingualism. The empirical part presents results of the research survey examining bilingual education and teaching English in pre-primary education in Prague. The data was gained from an analysis of informative documents a questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews. Not only had the research examined the form of early second language education in Prague, but also the use of methods and strategies based on the CLIL method and the conditions important for successful early second language teaching and learning formulated by the respondents. The basic findings include that the most common form of teaching English in pre-primary classes in Prague are...
Teaching geometric series through CLIL method with using of German language
Korcová, Aneta ; Moravcová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Hromadová, Jana (referee)
The core of the thesis is the realization of three lessons of mathematics conducted in accordance with the CLIL method, which integrates the teaching a non-linguistic subject with foreign language teaching. The topic of the lessons was non-finite geometric series and the chosen foreign language was German. The first part of the thesis introduces key definitions and theorems concerning sequences and geometric series. Comparisons are drawn between approaches of the Czech Republic and two German-speaking countries, Austria and Germany, in relationship to the teaching non-finite geometric series. Furthermore, available teaching materials of the selected countries are compared and applied visualized problems which appear in them are analysed. In the second part, the CLIL teaching method is presented together with the methodology according to which the lessons were prepared, realized and subsequently assessed. To conclude, the thesis presents a detailed analysis of the preparation and progress of the lessons, including the reflection. The appendix comprises of the utilized teaching materials as well as a range of the solved problems.

Title: Motivation work of a teacher of Mathematics Author: Mgr. Ivana Stoupová Department: Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Education Abstract: The topic of this work is the motivation of pupils in teaching of Mathematics. This work is connected to my Graduation Thesis, which I wrote 20 years ago. The aim of the work was comparison of the situation in teaching of Mathematics and confrontation of opinions of teachers on different motivation impulses 20 years ago and nowadays; completion new modern activities, which did not formerly exist and searching new possibilities of motivation of pupils in Mathematics teaching. I am generally concerned with conception of motivation in this work, by results and comparison of research, which were carried out in 1992 and 2012, I evaluate relation of pupils to mathematics, I mention particular options of use of state of art techniques in mathematics classes, and I in detail introduce the perspective method CLIL together with results of my own research, which is focused to this method. Valuable is that this work gives comprehensive overview to motivation work of teacher of Mathematics; and this could serve as aid or inspiration for other teachers. Keywords: Motivation, Mathematics, Motivational stimulus, CLIL
