Scope of responsibilities of a teaching assistant at primary schools

The diploma thesis "The work of a teaching assistant in primary schools" deals with the work of a teaching assistant and his cooperation and communication with other participants in the educational process such as parents, teachers and pupils with special educational needs and the assistant was assigned to them. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts and laws related to the profession of a teaching assistant. An integral part of this work is to get acquainted with the basic activities of a teaching assistant, his position in classes and schools. In this profession, there has been a change in the decree on the education of pupils with special educational needs, which is described here. There are also funding opportunities, an idea of the current state of assistants in Czech education and the procedure of each school headmaster, how to apply for assistants. The empirical part deals with the methodology of the research survey, the method of which is in the form of a questionnaire and an interview. The aim is to find out the work of a teaching assistant with an emphasis on the cooperation of a teaching assistant and a teacher at common lower secondary school. Messages delivered by the media are often used as a source of authentic texts in language teaching, yet there is not a sufficient amount of works dealing with the connection between media education and language teaching. The theoretical part of this thesis, therefore, tries to describe this relationship from the perspective of media studies, linguistics and language teaching methodology. The aim of this work is to create teaching materials incorporating media education into teaching English as a foreign language. The materials consist of worksheets for students and methodological support for teachers.
