Development of Normative Perspectives on Media in Czech Society with Respect to Chosen Verdicts of hte Council of Radio and Television Broadcasting

Diploma thesis development of Normative Perspectives on Media in Czech Society with Respect to Chosen Verdicts of the Council of Radio and Television Broadcasting" discusses the media policy of the Council. It analyses three different periods which strongly influenced the Council's roles and competencies. First one refers to the fact that Council awarded first nationwide private television broadcasting license to CET 21. This event contributed to the establishment of dual media system as well as invoked numerous discussions. Second studied period discusses about the amendment of Broadcasting Law in 1995, which stripped the Council of one of its important regulatory tools by removing several licensing conditions for the broadcasters. It was followed by the new amendment in 1997 that gave back to the Council several competencies to execute its media policy. Final period examines verdict, when the Council in 2001 awarded digital television licenses which were immediately canceled by the court's decision. Regulation is the main theme of this thesis. It is a part o a certain media policy that results from a particular nature of a society. The theoretical part builds upon the perspectives of normative approaches that are implemented in democratic and non-democratic societies.
Audience research: usage of media during maternal/paternal leave

A media policy on maternity leave is the subject matter of the thesis, which presents the results of a qualitative research of an audience by the grounded theory method. The analysis of various causes, conditions, contexts, strategies and consequences of media policies of individual speakers is based on the use of semi-structured interviews. The media usage on maternity leave is a complex of attitudes not only of the mother but also of the father who can be in agreement with his partner in one household but in conflict in another household. Influences of parents childhood or of the nearest neighborhood is continuously reflected in individual strategies of the media policy. A professional status of the mother and her needs offered by the media also plays a significant role. Last but not least, there is a conflict between mothers` own comfort when the media take over the role of a nanny and are a vital member of the household, and a childcare when the mother more or less regulates the role of the media in the early years of a child's life on the basis of her own experience, in other words to a reasonable degree.
Program objectives in media policy declared in the electoral programs of parliamentary political parties, and their subsequent implementation in the years 2002-2010

The thesis compares the commitments declared by selected parlamentary political parties in their election programs and other conceptual documents, with the commitments included in the government resolutions in the following period, in this case meaning the years 2002 to 2010. Also it analyses the conceptual documents in the current social and political context and briefly describes the current legal framework for the work of media in the Czech Republic.
Media Presentation of International Relations in Czechoslovakia during the Cold War in the Czechoslovak Television

The diploma thesis with the title "Media Presentation of International Relations in Czechoslovakia during the Cold War in the Czechoslovak Television" uses selected events in the defined period to show how much foreign policy of the Soviet Union influenced the Czechoslovak Television news. First, both Czechoslovak and Soviet foreign policies as well as media policy of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia are described, followed by a brief history of the Czechoslovak Television. The core part of this diploma thesis lies in the third chapter, where specific reports from the news of the Czechoslovak television are analyzed.
