The frost susceptibility of soils and materials for subgrade of pavements

The bachelor thesis deals with the theoretical part of the deformation caused by frost action, but primarily frost heave, their gradual development and factors affecting their final formation. Furthermore, different ways of measuring the frost susceptibility in the Czech Republic and their comparison. Introduction to the different methods of measuring frost susceptibility in selected countries within the European Union. The practical part is focused on the process of frost heave samples with and without thermal insulation material.
Engineering geological survey evaluation of area affected by lanslides in Budkovice

This Thesis deals with evaluation of engineer-geological survey of area affected by landslides near Budkovice. The area of interest is situated in the south part of Boskovická brázda on the left bank of the river Rokytná. The Thesis first outlines the problems of slope movements in general: why it’s appropriate to study them, what factors play role in their creation, what areas are prone to their creation, how to proceed with engineer-geological survey and how the slope stability is solved. Next itfocuses on the above mentioned landslide in village Budkovice. Geology and hydrogeology of the area of interest were studied. Carried out survey works were summarized. I became familiar with their results and outputs.Friction angle of the residual strength on the slip plane was calculated using Pettersson’s method, it’s value was 11,27°. Simple geological cuts though the slope area and calculation cut were made. Groundwater level was measured on the preserved drill holes and it was compared with former values.
Dewatering of foundation pit - numerical analysis

The subject of the presented thesis is a foundation pit dewatering numerical analysis. The study is introduced with practical examples and the summary of the necessary theory. Individual subtasks are modeled as two or three-dimensional problem on a chosen foundation pit example. A comparison with analytical methods and theoretical knowledge about the problem is made. The studies focus on specifying the pumped water quantity, the shape of the depression curve, determining the size of the numerical model and the influence of the finite element network density. The steady-state flow cases, water table aquifer, a well system, sheet pile wall cutoff effect, surface drained pit and partial penetration cases are analyzed. The work proposes a method of modeling a well by FEM. The main output is a 3D analysis of a submerged excavation dewatered with a partially penetrated well system.
Fluctuations in the groundwater level in the montane peat bog Rokytka

Peatbogs are globally widespread ecosystems that have a major influence on the hydrological conditions of watersheds. Of particular importance are mountain highlands, which are characterized by their occurrence in the source areas of streams. Despite the indisputable importance of the montane peatbogs in terms of runoff conditions, their influence has not yet been conclusively clarified. Montane peatbogs are a particularly important topic for the Šumava region, where they represent a fundamental element of the landscape. The study site is therefore situated in one of the Šumava's spring areas - the Rokytka watershed. As part of this thesis, the issue of the hydrological function of the monitored peatbog has been viewed mainly through the differences in the fluctuation of the groundwater level in different parts of the peatbog. At the same time, the influence of the precipitation on the change in the groundwater level in the peatbogs and on the runoff response of the Rokytka brook has been monitored. Precipitation is the only source of water for the highlands and its influence is therefore crucial. Although several previous studies have focused on the influence of this highland on the runoff conditions of the Rokytka brook, groundwater levels from manually measured probes have not yet been analysed....
Multi-criteria calibration of a hydrological model using runoff, snow water equivalent and groundwater level data

Multi-criteria calibration of a hydrological model (against multiple output variables simultaneously) has in previous research mostly resulted in satisfactory quality and reduced uncertainty in the simulations of all variables considered. However, its importance in the context of groundwater and low flows has rarely been studied. Therefore, a multi- criteria calibration using observed runoff, snow water equivalent and groundwater level data was performed in this study to determine if this approach leads to more accurate simulations, especially for low flows. The HBV hydrological model was calibrated using a genetic algorithm on the case of 14 mountain and sub-mountain basins in Czechia. The accuracy of different calibration variants was evaluated according to objective functions and hydrological signatures. The results show that multi-criteria calibration against the three mentioned variables is a good compromise for correct simulation of all these variables, where the value of objective function for each of them differs only slightly from a calibration more focused on it alone. The influence of the groundwater regime on the urbanization of the territory

The bachelor thesis deals with the influence of the groundwater regime on the urbanization of the terriory in the southern part of Brno, between the rivers Svratka and Svitava. In this location, the groundwater level is shallow below the surface and collides with the underground parts od buildings. The result of this thesis is indetification of the groundwater regime, the definition of the critical objects and sites of planned construction not only on the basis of the Brno City Zoning Plan and proposals for the solutions to this issue.
Hydrological function of peat bogs and peat water properties of the Vydra River headwaters

The retention potential of landscapes, along with the water regime of spring areas, are important hydrological topics of research, particularly in the current context of increasing extreme drought frequencies. The present work is focused on monitoring the mountain peat bogs, which, due to their overall frequency of occurrence in the spring area of the Vydra river, represent a significant constituent of the rainfall-runoff process of the area of interest. The specific hydropedological features of the organogenous soils (Histosol type soil) provide the high retention potential of the area, however, the influence of these soils on the runoff process is determined by complex physicogeographical factors. The general opinion on the hydrological function of the peat bogs has changed in recent years and the most important factor in the runoff formation in the mountain area of the Šumava Mts. is now thought to be the actual saturation of the headwater, which is predominantly composed of hydromorphic and organogenous soils. The organogenous soils are significant water reservoirs and have an important impact on the landscape.
