Preventive care of historical book collections

The aim of the master thesis is to explain and sum up the currently accepted rules of preventive care of historical book collections. It concentrates on the mechanical abuse of them. It aims to make clear what the concept 'historical book collections' mean and what exactly 'the preventive care of them' is. The work also deals with the degradation factors, storage and manipulation problems, conditions of access and possibilities of preservation reformatting.

"eBooks on Demand" Service in the Czech Republic

This Bachelor thesis introduces European cooperative project Elektronické knihy na objednávku - Evropská knihovní síť (eBooks on Demand - A European Library Network, EOD) and homonymous service which aims to digitize rare books on customer's demand. customer's demand. The first part of thesis describes the project in generally way regarding its history, describing goals, key activities, and technological workflow of EOD service. Furthermore the thesis focuses on describing current situation of EOD service in the Czech Republic. The last part presents the promotional tools of EOD service and their possible new opportunities.

Survey of Old Prints and Manuscripts Collections in Faculty Libraries of Charles University in Prague

(in English): This study focuses on the faculty libraries of the Charles University in Prague. More precisely, it deals with their collections of manuscripts, old and rare books. The introductory chapters are dedicated to theoretical basis of protection and preservation of historical documents. The main body of the thesis is created by an analysis of historical collections in particular libraries. This analysis is based on a questionnaire survey, on study of sources and on a research carried out during an actual visit to these libraries. Each chapter includes a brief history of the faculty library, the origin of the collection, and other important features such as the size of the collection, its thematic focus and especially the details of the way it is stored and available to readers. Another important focus of this study is to express the needs, the aims and experience of these faculty libraries. A more detailed study is dedicated to the library of The Protestant Theological Faculty. It includes a report about my research into the actual physical condition of the collection. The concluding and summarizing part of this thesis consists of thematically structured chapters, diagrams and tables which try to give an overall perspective on the situation. Europeana Cloud Kick-off meeting 2013

Účelem zahraniční cesty (2. 3. – 5. 3. 2013) byla povinná účast zástupců NTK PhDr. Petry Pejšové a Bc. Jakuba Řiháka na úvodní schůzce k projektu Europeana Cloud: Unlocking Europe’s Research via The Cloud pod zkratkou eCloud, která se konala The National Library of the Netherlands, Den Haag, Nizozemí. Na schůzce byla probrána obecná témata spojená s administrací projektu a představeny jednotlivé pracovní balíčky. Řešitelé měli možnost vyjasnit si své role v rámci jednotlivých pracovních balíčků. Celkem se schůzky zúčastnilo 73 zástupců z 35 řešitelských organizací.
