Patterns of use and needs assessment of young adults using illicit drugs in Prague

Background: Understanding patterns of use and the needs of young adult users of illegal addictive substances presents a challenge primarily due to the hidden nature of this problem. Individuals engaging in problem drug use (PDU) may face severe health and social problems. Prague stands among regions with the highest prevalence of PDU, yet low-threshold addiction services note an aging trend among their clients. Establishing contact with this group has the potential to reduce consequences and encourage less risky usage patterns, while simultaneously facilitating entry into further addiction care services. Aim: The aim of the research was to analyze the needs of the young adult substance users in Prague, who fit the definition of PDU according to EMCDDA, with a focus on identifying patterns of usage and needs in relation to low-threshold addiction services. Stigma of Russian-speaking injection drug users, that live in Czech Republic

The aim of the bachelor thesis was to map the barriers to Russian-speaking injecting drug users (IDU) living in the Czech Republic in entering the addictology services from the perspective of the users themselves. Moreover, to find out whether there is internalized stigma towards drug use in the mentioned population as a consequence of the structural and social stigma present in the post-soviet countries. The work also focuses on other subjective barriers on the part of Russian-speaking IDU in accepting and searching for addictology services in the Czech Republic. A partial goal of the work was to deepen knowledge about the cultural specifics of diasporas. The data were obtained using qualitative research where a semi-structured interview was conducted as a tool. The research group, which was selected by purposeful selection, consists of 8 respondents. This set is made by respondents from Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus and Latvia. This bachelor thesis deals with the stigmatization of Russian-speaking injecting drug users (active and ex-users), originating from post-Soviet countries, the influence of this process on the attitude to addictology services in the Czech Republic and their willingness to enter treatment. It is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part explains the concept of stigmatization, its causes and the process of origin. It also introduces the situation with the Russian-speaking minority living in the Czech Republic. The practical part is devoted to interviews with Russian-language IDU. The aim of the study was to find out whether there is stigma towards drug use in the mentioned population and if so, to what extent it influences users in their attitude to treatment and seeking help. Data were obtained using qualitative research, where a semi-structured interview was used as a tool. The research group, which was selected by purposeful selection, consists of 6 respondents. Needs analysis of the outreach program's clients in the Beroun region The needs of outreach programme clients depends if the the drug scene is open or closed. The thesis is focused on outreach programme in a town, where the drug scene is ussually closed. The theoretical part is focused on the location advantages and disadvantages, service provided and outreach work based on the harm reduction principles. In the Czech Republic, there are 53 outreach programmes, not only in large cities, but also in smaller ones, where outreach work attitude is adapted to clients needs. Needs analysis in one of the evalution tools that helps to view the current needs of clients and also suggest their further improvement and development. The aim of the thesis is to describe the scope, characteristics and needs of problem users and to evaluate the other services accessibility in the Beroun region. The partial goals of the work are the closed drug scene monitoring and the need for establishing a contact center in the region.
