The last place
Pavlicová, Barbora ; Štěpánek, Martin (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the expansion of the Židenice cemetery. The new cemetery offers a more ecological form of burial - composting of bodies. Because of this, a building is designed in which the ceremonies and the composting process will take place. The resulting compost can be picked up by the bereaved and placed next to the trees in the cemetery area. The area will serve as a public space on the border between the cemetery and the park.
The burial ritual and genesis of the new graveyards in the Kingdom of Bohemia of early modern period
SAMEK, Jakub
This diploma thesis will focus on the issue of burial rites before the year 1620. The first part will introduce the comparison of the burial ritual with the three most common confessions that were important in the early modern Kingdom of Bohemia. Priestly agendas will be the main written sources for this section. The second part will point to the origin of new graveyards. The main aim of the second part will be the description of the concrete graveyards located in the Kingdom of Bohemia, except Prague, which were created throughout this period. Furthermore, it will present three elementary causes of their establishment. The encyclopaedia Města a městečka v Čechách, na Moravě a ve Slezsku written by Karel Kuča will be the initial literal source of information. The primary sources will be some books about early modern law which help discover the issue of founding new early modern graveyards. The other primary sources could be letters or testaments.
Inscription on the Graves (Mikulov town)
Fantová, Růžena ; Janovec, Ladislav (advisor) ; Palkosková, Olga (referee)
The thesis describes all the inscriptions that one can see engraved into the gravestones on current cemeteries in Mikulov. We analyze the first and last names engraved into the gravestones but we focus primarily on epitaphs. In particular, we examine common epitaph themes, the number of their occurrences as well as linguistic errors that the inscriptions contain. In addition, we identify the most commonly quoted passages from the Bible, excerpts of poems, quotes of famous people and the time periods when they were most popular. Last but not least, we explore the symbolism and other nonverbal aspects of the gravestones. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Projective space
Štuříková, Blanka ; Zein, Lynda (referee) ; Kristek, Jan (advisor)
The design of the cemetery is based on the findings of the project Projective Space, which analyzes the memories of individuals of their spatial experiences that evoked emotions. Spatial collage as a method of creating an environment which, due to its ambiguity, allows individual interpretation by an individual person and evokes memories, is applied to the design of a cemetery for human composting. After the complete transformation of human remains into fertile land, the grave becomes useless. The dead lose their posthumous address. From a cultural point of view, however, the ritual of burial and the symbolic, mental value of the cemetery play an important role for the relatives in coping with the loss of their beloved. The design works with the culturally conditioned idea of the cemetery as an image of the world. With the disappearance of tombstones and urns, we abandon the concept of a cemetery - the city of the dead and reinterpret it as a cemetery - a landscape made of the dead. Remains in the form of fertile soil become material for modeling of the biodiverse terrain of the cultural landscape, a place that resonates with life.
Analýza dřevin na vybraných hřbitovech ve Zlínském kraji ve vazbě na půdní poměry a návrhy konkrétních opatření
Kytka, Martin
This thesis deals with problematics of tree species, especially trees growing in public cemeteries in various localities within the Zlín Region. Cemeteries are specific habitats for woody plants, where the interests of cemetery owners often get into collision with the interests of trees that grow near graves. In view of the frequent earthworks at the cemeteries, this work is focused mainly on the assessment of the state of health, vitality and operational safety of the studied species, but there is also the assessment of soil conditions in individual cemeteries. In the future, I find this topic very interesting, with open possibilities for further research, because the trees and cemeteries in the Czech Republic are inherent in our climate and culture.

Juhászová, Tereza ; Kocián, Jiří (advisor) ; Šístek, František (referee)
This diploma thesis analyzes the identity of German minority in the town of Medzev (South Slovakia). The research traced the development of identity manifestation from the mid- 20th century until now. The aim was to discover what factors (historical events, homogenization politics, private motivation or randomness) influenced the representation of identity of the German minority in the local cemeteries. The cemeteries thus serve as a source of information about local German identity manifestation. The field research was carried out in 2016 and 2017 in Medzev, which is a town with symbolical value for the German minority in Slovakia. In the cemeteries the author analyzed the used language and names on the gravestones, as well as the position of the gravestones, their form and material. The qualitative research in the cemeteries was supported by biographical and semi-structured interviews with members of the local German minority. The main contribution of this project lies in the reconstruction of German identity manifestation in the local cemeteries in the course of last 70 years. Based on the results of the confrontation of mostly invariable inscriptions on gravestones with testimonies of the narrators, the ambition of the thesis is to point out how flexible and multilayered are identities in the...
