Archive of photography of the czech television Ostrava (photography as a source of information)
Bednář, Marek ; Hrdina, Jiří (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
This thesis focuses on photography in the work of Television studio Ostrava, a part of Czechoslovak television, during a period of 1969-1989, called normalisation, the reflection of this period after the year 1989 and mainly the photography archive of said institution. It may be presumed that communist propaganda and other efforts of normalisation will be apparent in the documentaries and other products concentrating on photography. The region of Ostrava also has its own cultural specificity due to its mainly industrial nature; the region is characterised by coal mining and metallurgy. Thus it may be presumed that communism will be planted in the minds of the people more firmly. The thesis also contains a theoretical framework, describing socialist realism in photography and normalisation in photography as well as in the television studio in question. In order to verify these hypotheses and to discover other important facts of the topic in question, a content analysis of data available in the archive of Television studio Ostrava was carried out. The archive suffered grave losses during major flooding of Moravia and Silesia in 1997. However, some films and many actual photographs were still available for analysis. The findings relevant to each document are stated in their respective parts and are...
Czech tabloid photography and the privacy law
Kabátová, Šárka ; Lábová, Alena (advisor) ; Topinková, Martina (referee)
This thesis represents an analysis of the Czech tabloid photography in its most extreme form in relation to the legal framework of the Czech Republic. It covers legal aspects of the tabloid photography both in its theory as well as practice. This thesis therefore includes not only detailed analysis of the legal boundaries but also five case studies. These case studies should illustrate Czech tabloid photography in its most extreme form and bring to attention the ethically problematic decisions of the tabloid press to publish photos of naked celebrities. The case studies of three former top politicians - Mirek Topolanek, Petra Buzkova and Miroslav Macek - and actress Jirina Bohdalova as well as singer Iveta Bartosova would lead one to the conclusion that Czech tabloid photojournalism has had serious problems operating within the ethical boundaries. Those have been broken despite the law as well as the professional code of conduct. The findings indicate the shift in understanding of what is and is not ethical and that this is facilitated by increasing tabloid market share. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Eva Kmentová and the Body Imprint in the Sixties and Seventies Art
Hrušková, Tereza ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Wittlich, Petr (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the physical imprint in the sixties and seventies Art. The time limitation is mainly based on the selected works of sculptor Eva Kmentová (1928-1980), in which the phenomenon of body imprint is present. The issue of body imprint is gripped in a broader theoretical context and is based on two decisive foreign works. Primarily the book of George Didi - Huberman Le Ressemblance par contace, and secondly the theoretical thesis of Rosalind Krauss and Yve-Alain Bois in their catalogue Formless : A User's Guide to the exhibition L'informe. The bachelor thesis shows a possible view on the body imprint as a dialectic phenomenon generated by meeting of formlessness - shapeless mass and of the form - represented by imprinted object. For deeper understanding of Eva Kmentová's background, the chapter summarizing the changes in Czechoslovakian informel art in the late fifties and early sixties is included. Within the context of imprint's indexical value the bachelor thesis turns to Roland Barthes and his theory of photography. It is noted that both the photography and the physical three-dimensional imprint share the barthesian values. Selected works of Eva Kmentová from the late sixties and early seventies are subjected to deeper analysis from the defined perspective of the...
