Contemporary Preschool Children's Knowledge and Preferences of Fairy Tales

This bachelor's thesis deals with fairy tales in relation to contemporary children of pre-school age and their knowledge and preferences of these fairy tales. My ambition is to point out what is the meaning and value of fairy tales for children as well as the importance and benefits of children's fairy tales knowledge and preference investigation. In my opinion, it is necessary to find out how children are currently doing in the field of fairy tales to let it contribute to their development. The theoretical section of this thesis is dedicated to characteristics of the preschool children in relation to the topic of this thesis as well as to the factors influencing children's reading which include family, kindergarten teachers, reading-stimulating environment and libraries. Also there is a part dedicated to literature characteristics for children as well as generations raising today's children and their relationship to children's literature. It can also affect children's relationship to literature. The next important area in the section is the fairy tale itself, its characteristics, types and fairy tale characters as well as the role of the fairy tale in kindergarten and what interaction options it brings. Depiction of children in folk and art fairy tales

This thesis deals with analysis of the characters of children in selected folk and art fairy tales in German Romanticism of the 19th century. First of all, the term ʻfairy taleʼ will be explained along with its history and research. After that the European folk and art fairy tales and their differences will be defined. In the following chapter, the character of the child in the folk fairy tale ʻMarienkindʼ (which is the part of the brother Grimms' fairy tales collection Kinder- und Hausmärchen) will be compared with the character of the child in the art fairy tale ʻZwerg Naseʼ (written by Wilhelm Hauff). The thesis will concentrate both on external and internal profile of the child and on living conditions and family constellations in which the children are depicted. Moreover, the moral ideas that are mediated by behaviour will be analysed. The most important subject of this thesis is to show the differences in the depiction of children in the folk and art fairy tales and thereby to prove that the art fairy tale is separate literary genre.

Jan Werich´s fairy tales in the genre and developmental context of czech fairy tales which are influenced by their authors

This diploma thesis focuses on Werich?s fairy tales. The first section deals with fairy tales which are influenced by their authors against the background of folkloric fairy tale. The second section monitors the development of this type of fairy tale from 1870?s to 1960?s by reason of Fimfárum?s first publication. The third part deals with interpretations of single fairy tales from Fimfárum. On the basis of these interpretations the genre constants and author innovations are studied. The fourth section handles with film version of these fairy tales. The last section introduces Deoduši. This book has been recently published and contains less known texts from Werich which were not collectively published by this time.
