Interpretation of WWII in Novels of Authors in Exile after February 1948 - Oblak a valčík of Ferdinand Peroutka and Dvorní šašci of Viktor Fischl

This bachelor thesis deals with the interpretation of two novels, one written by Ferdinand Peroutka, Oblak a valčík, and the other by Viktor Fischl, Dvorní šašci. The core theoretical framework of this thesis is based on the methodological basis provided by Paul Ricoeurs's books Time and Narrative and Oneself as Another, and Hayden White's Tropics of Discourse and Metahistory. The interpretation mainly focuses on the representation of characters of victims of the Second World War, and Holocaust respectively. The last chapter itself contextualises the novel and puts it into the particular context of Czech exile literature, and relates particular authorial strategies found in these novels to the sociopolitical thinking of their respective authors.

Odsun - vyhnání českých Němců z Kaplicka pohledem pamětníků

This thesis follows up the topic of removal - expulsion of Czech Germans living in Czech borderland after the Second World War and it surveys the process of forced displacement in Kaplice and its surroundings in South Bohemia not only with provided data, but mainly with concrete stories. The Theoretical part focuses on the coexistence of Czechs and Germans in Czech territory and describes given historic circumstances which led to its bitter end. It endeavours to outline the process of removal and its consequences for Czechoslovakia. In the Practical part, the concrete stories of contemporary witnesses of the forced displacement complement the information about the process and consequences related to South Bohemian borderland. The main aim of this thesis is to ascertain what the contemporary witnesses think of this affair today.

The reflection of everyday life of a prisoners of war in archaeological sources from post-World War 2 "POW" camps

During the author previous study, the non-destructive research of the second world war camp took a place near the city of Nová Bystřice. The whole area of the camp and especially the relics are highly damaged here, and still are the main subject of the author interest. The damage was that high so the author decided to use an destructive method of archaeological research - the excavation one of the sanitary objects located in the area of the camp. These monuments, often disturbed, continue to be the subject of this work. The aim of this work is to make an insight into the everyday life of the prisoner of war from the point of view of archaeology and to clarify and identify patterns of activities inside military camps based on archaeological prospection. The work will provide an overview of the current state of cognition of the Second World War archaeology in the world, then present the author's research of the waste object from the camp near Nová Bystřice. Samples from the investigated objects will be subjected to analyzes (archaeobotanical, archaeozoological). The aim of this work is to supplement the current state of knowledge and to bring a new light to the issue of camp relicts based on new methods.

The situation in the area of constituting an asylum institution in the Czech institutional and legal framework will also be described. The development of migration issues in the Czech Republic will also be taken into account within the process of integration of the Czech Republic into supranational structures in Europe and the importance of this integration for the area of refugees.

C. S. Lewis, The Voice of Faith in the Heat of WW2

The thesis C.S. Lewis: The Voice of Faith in the Heat of World War II briefly presents the key events and works of the important British writer and lay theologian C.S. Lewis, breaks down his varied life into different periods and focuses on Lewis's work at the BBC, an unknown chapter of his life for the Czech audience. It presents the development of his thinking about society and faith, as well as the evolution of his work, not only fiction but also Christian work. A biographical introduction is followed by a section on British society during the Second World War, with a subsection on culture, which played a major role at the time. The third chapter deals with Lewis's work on BBC radio between 1941 and 1944 in Right or Wrong (1941), The Case for Christianity (Broadcast Talks, 1942), Christian Behaviour (1943) and Beyond Personality (1944). It aims not just to provide historical information but to present the popularising role and moral role these programmes played for British society during the Second World War. The final chapter then looks at the end of Lewis's life and the impact his radio programmes had on British society at the time, including the legacy this multi-faceted author left behind.

Postwar Expulsion of Germans from Liberec, 1945-1947

This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of the post-war displacement of Germans from Liberec and its surroundings. In the introduction, the German history of the city is presented. It mainly focuses on the period of the Munich Agreement and the associated incorporation of the city into the German Empire. Furthermore, the work examines the events of the end of the Second World War and the liberation of Liberec by the Red Army. The next part describes the development and change of attitude regarding the issue of expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia. After that, the work deals with the process itself and the organization of the transfer of Germans from Liberec. First, the disorganized expulsion that began in Liberec immediately after the end of the war is examined. This phase was often accompanied by violent incidents and organizational difficulties. Then the Potsdam Conference is mentioned, which was perceived as an intermediate link to the preparation of organized transfers. These transfers began in January 1946 and thesis mainly examines their organization and process, which was not always without problems. The Serbian Orthodox Church's Engagement in Memory Politics of Post-2000 Serbia: Memory of Suffering and Resistance

For late-modern societies, amnesic and fragmented in their character, a compact presence of the past in the present is of crucial importance. The search for collective memory as a precondition of collective belonging is especially urgent in the light of societal insecurity, which deconstructs the firm systems of significations. Churches, governed by the imperative of continuity constitute the reservoir of memory and provide a very effective response to such an insecurity. Religious institutions, therefore, often employ their mnemonic potential to constantly reaffirm their public relevance in the realities of late modernity. In my dissertation, I explore the motivations, forms, strategies, and outcomes of the mnemonic engagement of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in post-2000 Serbia. Analyzing primary sources collected by using methods of multi-sited ethnography, I illuminate the SPC's mnemonic activities related to the memory of Serbian heroic victimhood in World War II, and I embed them in a wider picture of memory-making, framed by the socially memorable and configured by specific features of mnemonic interaction. Lieutenant Colonel of General Staff of Czechoslovak Army František Hrubiš (1897-1967)

This work deals with the personality of František Hrubiš (1897-1967), his whole life and setting it in the context of the time. It focuses mainly on his military career and his contribution to many important moments in our history, such as participation in the Czechoslovak legions, later career in the Czechoslovak army during the First Republic, World War II, post-war life and his participation in the trial with Rudolf Slánský. To complete the overall picture of personality, this work deals with a brief history of the family and the environment in which he grew up. The work is based on the testimony of the witness, data found in the documentation of the Military Historical Institute in Prague, documentation from the Archive of the Security Forces and collections of documents of a personal nature stored in the National Archives of Prague, as well as personal family photographs and correspondence. The conclusion is a summary of the information and findings obtained, not only from the documents, but also from the testimony of František Hrubiš's daughter, Jarmila Filipová.
