Controversial topics of Catholic Church

This bachelor's thesis deals with selected controversial issues from the point of view of Catholic youth. For a better understanding of individual topics, the legislative framework of the Czech Republic, the opinion of society, the influence of the media, public discussion and the official position of the Catholic Church are described for each question. A questionnaire was created for this work, which was intended for Catholic youth between the ages of 15 and 25. The questionnaire was used to find out the opinions of young Catholics on selected controversial issues that are current in our society. At the end of the work, the obtained information is compared with the official position of the Catholic Church.
Controversial issues of self-defence in Czech case law

The focus of the thesis is set on the controversial issues connected with a legal institute of Czech criminal law called "self-defence", and how these controversial issues were dealt with within judicial practice. The first chapter serves as an introduction to the whole topic. The second chapter describes the concept of self-defence, as well as its prerequisites. The self- defence was classed into the system of criminal law. The goal of the third chapter is to define preconditions which are necessary in connection with application of the self-defence institute. The main parts of this chapter describe firstly attacking, first of all and secondly defence. Subsections of this chapter analyse the term of attacking itself, the attacker and his characteristics, the term of harmfulness of such attacks towards society. As for the second part of the third chapter it focuses on the defence itself, its proportionality etc. The fourth chapter is about the role of judicial practice within the context of Czech legal system. This chapter serves as a relevant contribution to the main part of the thesis, which is chapter five. Chapter five introduces specific cases, especially those which were at some point controversial. Controversial Issues as a Part of Education in Primary Schools

This diploma thesis focuses on dealing with controversial issues in primary schools. The main aim of this work is to find out why it is appropriate to integrate these issues into teaching, whether it is even possible for primary school pupils to deal with them and how these topics can be taught and integrated. The theoretical part begins by defining the term controversial issue, then it is devoted to developmental presupposition of primary school children for dealing with controversial issues, then how these issues relate to Citizenship and Global Education, and which methods can be used for dealing with controversial issues. Controversial issues in civic education: example of gender and stereotypes

The thesis is focused on research on teaching controversial issues in civic education. The aim is to examine the utilization of controversies in classes and the analysis of the application of various methods using controversies. In the first part the theoretical base of the thesis was defined and also the importance of integrating controversial topics was explained. Moreover, the anchorage in curricular documents was presented and also the psychological theories of development of thinking and moral together with different methods were described. In the second part, the methodological base of the thesis was stated and one concrete lesson with the topic of gender and stereotypes was drafted. The qualitative research took place in two classes of secondary school in the form of active observations of students and structured interviews with their teachers of civic education. The results show some differences in students' competences according to the amount of integration of controversial topics in classes. The influence of the controversial issues on (non)success of the Tea Party

The aim of the present thesis is to determine whether the Tea Party candidatesʼ attitudes towards selected controversial issues influenced their electoral success and the success of the Tea Party movement as a whole. The thesis consists of two parts, theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part the author focuses on the historical perspective of the political and party system in the United States of America, bipartism and position of third parties in the system. It also includes a brief analysis of the Democratic and Republican parties. Next, the author examines the Tea Party phenomenon - its genesis, structure, purposes and ideals. The subsequent section deals with three controversial issues, i.e. abortion, LGBT rights, and race, which reflect an ideological cleavage among the american public. The empirical part presents a case study entitled The influence of controversial issues on the (non)success of the Tea Party candidates, which deals with attitudes of the House and Senate Tea Party candidates who won the 2010 congressional elections towards the above- mentioned controversial issues.
