CARBON Visitor Center
Turčíková, Monika ; Chuděj, Tomáš (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The mountain village of Trojanovice is currently facing a major challenge, which is the revitalization of the area of the disused coal mine Frenštát. The reconstruction of the mine will close the chapter of mining activity in Trojanovice, which brings with it not only a promising future without the threat that adversely affected the future development of the entire region, but also a challenge for the creation of something new and inspiring for future generations. The aim of the revitalization is to transform the complex, which has long been inaccessible to the public, into an open and welcoming place offering plenty of opportunities for work, living and spending free time. The subject of the solution of the bachelor's thesis is the construction of a visitor center, which is to become part of the newly created local part in the area of the former mine. The visitor center will functionally complement the tourist destinations in the Beskydy. It will offer exhibits with reference to the past, where the history of the site and coal mining will be presented, and the future, which will highlight the benefits of using alternative energy sources.

Transformations of Kladno in the Period of Industrialization and the Great Depression Key words: Kladno region, industrialization, The Great Depression, Poldi Hut, Kablo, railways, coal mines, historical geography, industrial landscape This bachelor thesis deals with the transformation of Kladno region since the second half of the 19th century to present. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the extent to which the Great Depression has affected the development of the mining and metallurgical center in Central Bohemia, the territory of Kladno region and society in this area. For this reason, much of the work is devoted to the development of the area from the second half of the 19th century to the economic crisis. The Kladno region has developed and expanded rapidly to the surrounding landscape, as it has become dominantly industrial due to social changes due to its originally agricultural area. The economic crisis manifested itself in the Kladno region in 1932. The settlements ceased to penetrate the surrounding landscape and support the families of the unemployed from urban budgets. However, there was a problem with insufficient infrastructure and social care in front of Kladno municipalities. The economic recovery helped to prepare for the next world war. The Kladno industry began to...
Radiation exposure in coal miners
BÁŇOVÁ, Denisa
The bachelor thesis focuses on a problematics of radiation load of miners during coal mining. This topic is something that public and miners themselves are not aware of that well. The thesis sets following goals: To chart radiation load of miners during coal mining and the awareness of miners about risks of their job. For the theme were also set following research questions: How big is the rate of radiation exposure of miners during coal mining? Is there considered any radiation protection for miners? At what rate do the miners perceive threats associated with working at coal mine? Which risks the miners encountered during their work experience? How big is the awareness of miners about the threat of radiation load? The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis classifies and sets general characteristics of coal and its most significant coal deposits. Furthermore, the thesis describes natural radionuclides and its content in rocks, radiation load of miners and other risks connected to mining. The last section of theoretical part describes radiation protection, safety and protection of health at work. The practical part was processed based on literature study and qualitative research. For data collection was used semi-structured interview with miners which formerly worked at coal mines and with miners which are still actively working at mines. Furthermore, was conducted an interview with specialist which focuses on ionizing radiation sources in a form of industrial applications. After the analysis, the research questions can be answered as follows. According to studied literature can be concluded that radiation load of miners does exist. However, from conducted interviews emerged that minors do not know much about this problematic and most of them does not even consider radiation load as a threat. The radiation protection in Czech coal mines is regulated by legislation. Based on the valid legislative the average volume activity of radionuclides in the air must be measured in work environments with material containing increased content of natural radionuclides. However, the miners reported that they did not notice any radiation measurement in coal mines. From this statement can be considered that there are no exceeding levels set by legislation at coal mines where questioned miners worked. Other possibility might be that nobody deals with it which is indicated in the interview with radiation application specialist. Some miners realize threats connected to their work and some of them do not. Some miners reported gusts, shaking, presence of methane and coal dust, various injuries and more. Those who did not report specific threats responded that they do not consider these as threats after several years working at mines. Respondents reported a big amount of threats which they encountered at their work. Amongst others were mentioned gusts, accidents, shaking, stone falls, variable temperatures, risk of occupational disease, possibility of methane explosion, presence of noise and vibrations when working with machines.
Economic aspects of reclamation of brown coal quarry near the town Most
Štemberová, Daniela ; Dvořák, Antonín (advisor) ; Hadrabová, Alena (referee)
The master thesis deals with reclamation of brown coal quarries from different perspectives. It focuses on the various options of reclamation of quarries. It evaluates the economic benefits and costs, integration into the way of rehabilitation needs and the future use of this reclamation. It defines a way how to optimise the use of devastated land. This thesis is focused on the reclamation of region Most specifically on the brown coal quarry called Ležáky - Most. It considers if hydrologic variant of reclamation for the quarry is the best. It describes other possibilities of reclamation that have been considered. The master thesis introduces the reasons for the selection of the hydrologic reclamation. It reviews the complexity of the hydrologic reclamation of the quarry Ležáky -- Most, its effect on the environment, social sphere and the further societal use. The main objective is to analyze the total effectiveness of quarry Ležáky - Most, if the mining was profitable taking into account all its costs and revenues.
