Survey and Diagnostics of Brick Structure
Brothánek, Jan ; Heřmánková, Věra (referee) ; Anton, Ondřej (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with a structural and technical survey of the surviving cellar of the German House in Brno. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the theoretical description of the constructions, methods performed and their evaluation concerning the investigated space. The aim of the survey is to determine the strength characteristics of the masonry and on their basis to propose appropriate rehabilitation and structural protection.
Preparation and Realization of Technical Survey of the Building
Brothánek, Jan ; Heřmánková, Věra (referee) ; Anton, Ondřej (advisor)
This thesis covers structural-technic research of family house situated in Brno. In the first part of thesis I discuss theoretical explanation of structures situated in the object and its assessment in vterms of structural engineering research. Goal of this research is to estimate strength of masonry. These properties are calculated in practical part of this thesis. Last part of thesis summarizes previous calculations of strength of masonry.
5-Minutes Neighbourhood
Gregorová, Stanislava ; Zadražilová,, Miroslava (referee) ; Menšíková, Naděžda (advisor)
The specified area is located in the city district Brno - Židenice, near the railway station. The theme of the thesis is the architectural study of selected part of the multifunctional intense urban structure, which was solved in the pre-diploma project. Draft uses the building site intensively, provides high plot ratio and density of population, a wide range of functions in a relatively small area is related to the elimination of transportation. By using topography the proposal creates a permeable areas, buildings with relations to the surroundings and with quality public spaces and attractive housing. Pick-up railway cancels barrier and makes a space with landscaping. Readability is achieved by linking the territory from east to west by straight streets and from north to south by passages. The development creates three centers, the commercial center of the north, center of culture in the heart of the area and the center of relaxation and sport in the south. Basic grid of development has a checkerboard plan, which reflects the grid of surrounding structure. The new development varies in its scale, from large scale buildings in the parterre decays into smaller scale. Function division is horrizontal. There are underground parking, a parterre with shops and services, a floor with offices and work study open to the courtyard and housing on the upper floors. Thus formed structure provides enough light in the courtyards and flats. The segmentation is supported by materials, bricks in the parterre contrast with the monotone plaster on the upper floors.
Experimental drying and desalination of bricks, sandstones and masonry under an applied electric field

Dewatering and desalination of building constructions is currently a discussed topic. At the present time, different techniques for dewatering and desalination can be used. The existing methods are efficient but it is necessary to improve these methods and to develop new ones. The moisture in the building constructions is directly connected with the salts, which can be dissolved in it and together with the moisture further to move. The salts can cause damage of constructions and change mechanical and physical properties of the buildings materials. The basic demands for dewatering and desalination are the speed, efficiency and economical factors. Presented dissertation focuses on dewatering and desalination with the use of electrokinetic methods together with the technique of the clay poultices. In the first part of the thesis, basic theoretical principles of moisture and salts are described. In the second part (experimental part), the series of experimental measurements were conducted both in the laboratory and in situ. In this part of dissertation, I was dewatering and desalinating bricks and sandstones under an applied electric field. The main focus was on the optimization of a laboratory setup in order to get the highest efficiency for dewatering and desalination. Other measurements were done in situ, where the same technique was used.
Diagnostics of Historic Masonry Construction
Pernová, Jana ; Heřmánková, Věra (referee) ; Anton, Ondřej (advisor)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to elaborate an overview of the historical development of bricks and brickwork, including detailed methodology of diagnostics of historical brick structures. Part of this work is also a preliminary survey of a historical brick building, which includes passport failures and tests of samples taken from bricks and mortars. In this part, based on a visual survey, photographic documentation, evaluation of the tests and information provided by the archaeologists present, submitted a proposal for static construction measures against the further deterioration of the state of construction, or even measures to ensure construction so that it could be actively used.
Dance in Brno
Papcun, Peter ; Všetečková, Alena (referee) ; Galeová, Nicol (advisor)
Contemporary dance theater faces the problems of insufficient infrastructure and unsuitable spaces for its performances. Classic theater buildings and other transformed spaces often do not meet the specific needs of dance art. The lack of new, specially designed spaces in the Czech Republic leads to the migration of dancers abroad or to Prague. In this work, I devoted myself to the analysis of the current issue of dance theater and at the same time I focused on the analysis of the solved plot. Based on these analyses, I developed a proposal for a new theater that reflects the identified problems, offers solutions and deviates from standard ideas about the theater. The goal of my proposal is to create an environment that will be in line with the requirements and needs of the dance theater today. When designing the theater, I took into account aesthetic, functional and technical aspects in order to create a space that will allow the presentation of dance performances in the best possible form. The result is a comprehensive theater design, which is based on thorough analysis and at the same time brings innovative solutions for dance theater today. The building should be integrated into the scale of the city of Brno and become an integral part of its life.
Stanovení obsahu vybraných prvků ve stavebních a demoličních odpadech
Vítková, Michaela
The diploma thesis “Determination of the content of selected chemical elements in construction and demolition waste” begins with a literature research, where the first part describes the terms that are used in other parts of the thesis. The next part of literature research contains description of legislation related to the topic of the thesis. The aim of the thesis was to verify the concentration of arsenic, chromium, cadmium, lead, nickel and vanadium in the most produced construction and demolition waste, to compared the measured values with legal limits and to evaluate possible impacts on the environment and human health. X-Ray fluorescence analysis, the so-called XRF, was chosen to address the topic. The results show that the most of samples have higher content of chromium and arsenic. At the end of the diploma thesis is an evaluation of the fulfillment of aims and verification of hypotheses.

Content of radon in the building materials and its influence on human health
ŠTĚPÁNOVÁ, Miluše
This bachelor thesis deals with presence of radon gas in brick building materials. Three samples of each of four examined brick kinds were used divided into two separate groups to investigate the relationship between the chemical-mineralogical composition and radon concentration. First group consisting of Ytong and Porfix brands of brick collects autoclaved aerated concrete blocks. Being considered major type of lightweight concrete-based materials, it consists of Portland cement, lime, sand, water, and calcium sulfate. Second group collects Heluz brand bricks and historical bricks taken from the wall in the Nová Říše Monastery, both kinds being clay-based fired bricks. Results were compared with a number of relevant studies and certificated values of the activity concentration index. Using data from semiconductor-based gamma spectroscopy detector, the radon concentration was measured indirectly, through the activity concentration index. Three of the most prominent natural radionuclides potassium-40, radium-226 and thorium-232, known to form radon through their radioactive decay, were subject to the measurements. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spektrometry (ICP-OES) method was chosen as appropriate for chemical analysis. To ensure effective comprehension with structure and physicochemical properties of the samples, X-ray crystallography was used to provide mineral content measurement. Activity concentration values of the clay-based fired bricks were as much as three times higher than those of autoclaved aerated concrete blocks. This was due to high content of phyllosilicates originated from igneous and metamorphic rocks.
