Automotive fuel taxes and cross-border shopping
Kubovič, Jozef ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Mikolášek, Jakub (referee)
This thesis investigates the presence of the cross-border shopping for automotive fuel between the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries over the time period from January 2005 to December 2012. Tax rates on fuels were described as one of the main source of price difference between countries that induces cross-border shopping. Using monthly data for diesel and petrol we used error correction model and estimated both long-term and short-term relationships between consumption of fuel in the Czech Republic and prices in Czech Republic and neighbouring countries. We found the evidence of a negative relationship between prices of petrol in the Czech Republic and its consumption as well as a positive relationship between relative price of petrol in Germany upon the consumption of petrol in the Czech Republic, which indicates presence of the cross-border shopping from Germany to Czech Republic.
The Development of Postmaterialism in the Czech Republic
Pilnáček, Matouš ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Suša, Oleg (referee)
This thesis analyzes the development of postmaterialism in the Czech Republic. Specifically, it deals with the effects that might cause a slight decrease between measurements in 1999 and 2008. The theoretical part of the thesis presents basic concepts of postmaterialism, as defined by Ronald Inglehart, and selected critique of the concept. The second part is an exploratory analysis of research European Value Study, which shows that there is still present a generational growth of postmaterialism. in Czech population and that the decrease is likely to be most affected by the economic situation in the everyday life of the respondents. Based on the theory and exploratory analysis three hypotheses are formulated about the influences on the development of postmaterialism in the Czech Republic between 1999 and 2008. The first hypothesis about the media impact of the financial crisis has been falsified. The following hypotheses about the effects of inflation and fuel prices to postmaterialism have not been falsified and must be taken into account. The conclusions have mainly methodological character, which is claimed to affect the context of questioning the development of postmaterialism.

BIOFUELS - REASONS AND CONSEQUENCES OF ITS INTRODUCTION
Bogdanov, Igor ; Vostrovská, Zdenka (advisor) ; Munzi, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis aims to analyze the economic and environmental consequences of the regulation to mandatorily blend bio-components into the fuel and prove its inefficiency. The theoretical part summarizes in detail the reasons of introducing the regulation, including the legislative framework, and generational evolution of biofuels. The analytical part uses statistical analysis of time series and price and efficiency indices to evaluate the effectiveness of biofuels in relation to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The impact of the introduction of biofuels on the economy is specified through fuel prices. The impact on engines as well as food prices and social environment is also mentioned.
Influence of crude oil price upon fuel prices in the EU
Košťálová, Jindra ; Procházka, Petr (advisor) ; Aleš, Aleš (referee)
Nowadays, the price of fuels is much discussed topic, due to frequent changes and fluctuations. This bachelor thesis aims to analyze the development of fuel prices, with a focus on the crude oil as the main factor affecting the price. The first, theoretical part describes the major and minor factors influencing the price of oil and the price of fuel. Analytical part applies these factors on the real historical prices of both petrol Super 95 and diesel. Using the regression analysis, it is shown, how the change in price of crude oil influences the price of fuels in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, it examines the difference between the final prices at petrol stations in the various countries of the European Union. Prices are subsequently cleaned from the taxes and it is evaluated, where the change in price of crude oil influences the final margin of the distributors, thus on the final price of the fuels, the most. It is found that high price of the fuels does not automatically mean a high margin of the petrol stations, it only means high rate of excise duty.
Do fuel prices respond asymmetrically in the Czech Republic?
Kohoutek, Jakub ; Koubek, Ivo (advisor) ; Chytilová, Helena (referee)
It's a subject of extensive discussion whether or not fuel prices on gas stations respond faster on an increase of oil price than on its decrease. Though this phenomenon is widely discussed in scientific literature, there's still no study focused on an asymmetric behavior of fuel prices on the Czech market. This diploma thesis fills the gap and explores the reaction of fuel prices in response to cost shocks in the environment of the Czech Republic. At the first section of thesis, there is described several economic theories explaining asymmetric reaction - especially the theories based on consumer behavior under the imperfect information assumption and the theory of tacit collusion according to which the price of previous period provides companies on oligopolistic market with a focal price for implicit cartel agreement. In the Empirical part of the thesis, I use an error correction model allowing asymmetric reaction to analyze if the retail fuel prices in the Czech Republic really react with different lag on positive and negative cost shocks. Based on several time series of gasoline and diesel prices, presence of asymmetric price reaction was proven between wholesale and retail level of supply chain.
Economic Impacts of Stagnant Oil Production
Stoszek, Václav ; Štěrbová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Petříček, Václav (referee)
In the first chapter, the thesis states main features of international trade in oil. The second chapter is focused on the historical developments of world oil production, particularly on three oil shocks and the stagnation since 2005. The last chapter compares the impacts on real GDP growth, current account and real estate market in Czech Republic, USA and Japan.
Fuel prices and their impact on road transport
KOTEK, Jiří
Development of road transportation in Czech republic was compared with driving fuels prices development by the simple statistic examination. In was discovered, that volume of transported goods is developing indenpendently on prices of petrol and diesel in each year during last ten years. This fact is explained by business enviroment of goods transportation. Companies are obligate to deliver the goods by contract apart of the price of fuels. Outputs of goods and personál transportation rising along with prices of fuels, which is caused by growth of economy in Czech republic leading do larger amount of possible contracts and oportunities. Statistic analysis therefor confirms the hypothesis stated above. Prices of driving fuels have no influence in growth neither the structure of vehikle park in Czech republic. The amount of vehicles rises steadily last ten years indenpendently on fuel prices development. Economy crysis only slows the rise down.
Effects of the use of biofuels in the fuel prices and food prices
Procházka, Štěpán ; Ryvolová, Ivana (advisor) ; Petrášek, František (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the influence of the use of biofuels in the fuel prices and food prices. The theoretical part introduces the concept of biofuels, the grounds for introducing them and try to show some increase in prices of agricultural commodities as a result of biofuel production and their impact on fuel prices. Analytical part provides a method that allows you to calculate the limit price for 1 barrel RME (rape-seed methyl ester) using the change rate of CZK / USD and change in oil prices in USD per 1 barrel. The aim of this work is to assess the impact of biofuel production on food prices and fuel.
