The theme of popular music in regional newspapers of contemporary Karlovy Vary region in the period 1957-1967

The dissertation Topic of popular music in the local press of contemporary Karlovy Vary region in the period 1957 - 1967 attempts to capture the process of official views presented in the regional press between the years 1957 - 1967 in the territory of today's Karlovy Vary Region on various genres of modern music, represented by mainstream dance music which later evolved into popular music. Articles, reviews and critiques relevant to modern music published in newspapers in area of Karlovy Vary and specialist publications dedicated to particular cultural issues in the region was used for the research. Furthermore, it was primarily jazz and rock music in Czechoslovakia known as big beat (bigbít). The introduction deals with the theoretical and methodological issues appropriate to the topic and their possible use. The next part deals with the social and cultural context in Czechoslovakia at that time, the influence of ideology on culture and simultaneously on releasing in art and society during the 1960s. An overview of contextualization within postwar (World War II) official press, the situation regarding modern music in Karlovy Vary regional press in the period 1948 - 1956 and also archival documents that are related to the topic of work are mentioned in the second part. Role of music group Extempore in the czech underground

This thesis deals with the music group Extempore since its foundation by Jaroslav Jeronym Neduha in 1973 until its annulment by Mikolas Chadima in 1981. The thesis shows the important moments of the group and its members. Jaroslav Jeronym Neduha was Extempore's frontman by the year 1979 then he left the group and its management handed to Mikolas Chadima. Both gave to Extempore its characteristic style in the musical aspect, lyrics and performance. Extempore gained lots of fans, so the State Security focused on them as a obnoxius music group. The thesis has the aim to reveal Extempore's role in Czech musical underground. Firstly I defined alternative culture in relation to underground and official culture with focus to the music. Also I described Prague's unofficial big beat scene between 1973 - 1981. Primarily the thesis is focused on alternative music scene and musical underground. The review also contains other noncommercial movements during that time - folk association Safran and younger musical movement New Wave that inspirated Chadima's Extempore. Since the 1979 Extempore has been more and more pressed to the illegality until they got ban to perform their music in any Prague's club. The History and Presence of Radio Beat

This thesis deals with the historical development of the first Classic rock radio station in the Czech Republic - Radio Beat. The station began broadcasting on 1st January 2002 and within the first few years of its existence it proved that even in the Czech media landscape it is possible (despite its narrow profile) to build a strong rock radio station. In a few years' time, the original Prague station has spread through the whole of the Czech Republic and today it is possible to tune in to it on more than fifty frequencies in all regions. One of the specialities of the station is (amongst others) that it offers topical music journalistic programmes every evening. The thesis is the first comprehensive portrait of the station. Apart from the development of the programming of the station the thesis concentrates on the staff structure of Beat, its PR and background and especially the station's communication with its target audience. Part of this work is also dedicated to a brief description of the present state of Beat (that is, in year 2016) in terms of programming, radio presenting and staff structure. Underground music - subculture of young people in Prague in 1968 - 1989

The work deals with the mapping of underground cultural phenomenon in the Czechoslovak normalization environment. Especially arising subculture within the band The Plastic People of the Universe. Described is a brief history of the band, its sources of inspiration, lyrics and music. The next section focuses on the persecution of the regime and the subsequent wave of solidarity from the Czech intellectuals and dissidents, which substantially contributed to the formation of Charter 77.
