The origin and the development of representation of Buddha and bodhisattva in the Gandhāran art

This diploma thesis concerns the iconography of early Buddhist art in India, especially in the region of ancient Gandhāra. It follows the development of representation of Buddha and bodhisattva from an aniconic type to establishment of anthropomorphous form during the reign of the Kushaṇas. It outlines the influence of the Hellenistic world on this form and tries to give a summary about the mixture of the symbolic and stylistic patterns as well as their further development in the later Buddhist art.

The aim of this bachelor work is evaluation of the Italian Renaissance ceramics with motifs of ancient mythology in the context of Czech collections. Work closer related literature in the Czech and foreign art history. The main attention will be focused on the analysis and interpretation of individual exhibits both formal and iconographic page. In connection with the selected collection items will also be reminded of the main production centers of the Italian Renaissance ceramics. Finally, the work will evaluate iconographic themes and their typological comparison with similar parts in foreign collections. Arms and armor of Achaemenid army

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to introduce Arms and Armour of Achaemenid Army. In this study I describe briefly clothing, arms and armour of the Persian army during the period since the reign of Cyrus the Great until the reign of Darius III. Kodomanés. War strategy of the Persian army will be also mentioned, whereas it is not possible to present military equipment without an adequate description of the method of use. Firstly we use the historical writings by Greek authors to describe Achaemenid arms. Furthermore, we observe the appearance and evolution of weapons and equipment in art. Artistic monuments of Persian origin, Scythian artefacts, which decoration was greatly influenced by Achaemenid art, Greek artefacts, to which, however, should be approached with caution, and the art of some other Asian nations (Lydians, Phrygians) we use as a sources of information. Secondly, we introduce a categorisation of weapons and equipment. The most important is the division of equipment between infantry and cavalry. In both sections, we firstly describe the clothing of troops, further we introduce defensive equipment and offensive weapons. The Harp in the Old Testament and in the Culture of the Ancient Near East

The Harp in the Old Testament and in the Culture of the Ancient Near East. This work reviews the chordophones of the harp and lyre categories and their use in the whole Ancient Near East, including Egypt. The structure of each chapter reflects the undertaken methodology: Each chapter opens with a review of available primary and secondary sources; it is divided in separate sections with archaeological and literary material. The review is followed by discussion of the social, religious and symbolic role of a harp in the given culture. Egypt, as well as Israel/Palestine region, is covered each by its own chapter; Mesopotamia, Akkad, Assyria and Babylonia are discussed together in single chapter. In Egypt, the harp play developed in immemorial tradition strongly anchored to the cult, as we can deduce from pictorial relics. Apart from the paintings depicting harp on religious occasions, it was portrayed (almost exclusively) during ceremonies of both intimate and public character. Other studied cultures offer much more wealth of information on their musical aspect. Mesopotamia developed musical notation, large number of sources give sound evidence for significant role of harp and lyre in the cult. Reception of classical culture in the Czechoslovak/Czech television of Prague created

This work focuses on original television dramatic production of domestic authors, which was created in The Czechoslovak/Czech Television of Prague, and which is based on themes related with the history of ancient Greece and Rome. The aim is to study thoroughly this production - especially to discover how many inscenations of ancient subject The Czechoslovak/Czech Television of Prague created, what the topics are, and which authors participated on it; whereas a single chapter concentrates on each inscenation. Every chapter contains the comparison of the storyline of an inscenation and historical facts (i.e. the approach of scriptwriters to ancient realia and the procedure during its reception); it further contains the circumstances of an inscenation's origin, if contemporary critics know them from available sources and the acceptance of an inscenation. The work is also complemented by a chapter, which specifies the basis of television aesthetics. Greek theatre as architectonic monument

This bachelor thesis deals with the architecture of Greek theaters. It informs us not only with architectural elements in the construction of theaters in different areas inhabited by Greeks, but also with the emergence and development of theater performances. The theatre are in each chapter divided alphabetically in Greek theater, Asia Minor, Magna Graecia and Greco-Roman. Each theater is given a description of construction and major changes, such alterations and modifications are within the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The annex shows the floor plans of theaters, according to which we can make a concrete idea of the different developmental stages. The conclusion is devoted to the actors, chorus, and their recitation, masks and costumes. An important part of the theaters and their decorations, and the actual audience tickets. In conclusion, we watch the development of the Greek Mimes, which became very popular in southern Italy and Sicily, where he had called the phlyakes. Keywords: theater, theatron, skene, orchestra
Ancient motifs in the world of the last Rosenbergs

The diploma thesis deals with the forms of self-representation of the last Rosenbergs. They were using the representations to support their political positions. The paper is based on a study of the panegyrics and symbolic decorations of the Rosenbergs' castles that were used to present the virtues of the Renaissance nobleman. The study analyzes Roman motifs of the Rosenbergs' propaganda. It tries to capture the views of particular individuals on selected ancient motifs from representation of the Rosenbergs. Ancient exempla presented the Rosenbergs by using the language of symbolic communication as Christian knights.
