The work maps the development of the YMCA organization in Jindřichov Hradec from its foundation in the early nineties to the present day. He deals with the development of the organization and its activities with youth. To understand the context, the first part also covers the history and mission of the YMCA on a global and national scale. It describes its development in our territory and the historical events that led to its demise and revival.

The dissertation looks at the history of one physical education organisation which was of great significance to the development of physical culture in inter-war Czechoslovakia and Poland, despite this not being its only activity. The YMCA came into being in England but it particularly flourished in the United States of America. During the First World War, Czechoslovak and Polish soldiers were given a taste of their activity, being accompanied home by members of this in- ternational association after the war had ended. Following requests from military and political leaders of the time, the American YMCA sent its secretaries to the newly established Czechoslovakia and renewed Poland to help establish the first local associations. It was particularly due to them that new practically unknown sports, were introduced to the region. In addition, in both Czechoslovakia and Poland, the YMCA also took responsibility for having new physical education fa- cilities built, improving training methods and generally enhancing young people through sport. During the inter-war years, local YMCA groups and their mem- bers performed exceptionally well in a number of sporting disciplines and ranked among the top Czechoslovak and Polish athletes. Christian Student Movements in the 20th Century

This Bachelor thesis deals with the origin, development and focus of student Christian movements, especially in the 20th century, but by description of the origins of movements, it intervenes to the 19th century as well as by chapter about the situation in the Czech Republic to the 21st century. It focuses in particular on IFES movement and its part in the Czech Republic - UKH. The thesis describes origin and orientation of YMCA, SVM, WSCF, Campus Crusade and movements which developed from these organizations in the Czech Republic as well. Even though the majority of contents of the thesis concern about historical facts and points of view of individual authors on specific movements, the thesis is also dealing with the question, why individual movements were established and what circumstances led to this. The author of this text also attempts to understand the situation of connection or splitting of particular movements. The thesis is generally trying to understand particular international movements within the context of contemporary background in the church environment. The author is also trying to look under the scope of those movements and find out what way they were participating in mission and evangelism and what activities they offered to students as well.
The volleyball development in Czechlands from the beginning to the Second World War

Title: The volleyball development in Czechlands from the beginning to the Second World War Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to characterize the beginnings and important evolution milestones of volleyball up to the Second World War Methods: There are progressive, diachronic, and probe methods applied in this thesis. Results: The overview of data given here describes the beginnings of volleyball in Czechlands and its subsequent development in organizations and streams, which most significantly influenced the advancement and propagation of this sport in Czechoslovakia. This thesis documents, that several organizations effected expansion of volleyball, especially YMCA and College sport, then later Czechoslovak volleyball and basketball federation, Sokol, Orel and DTJ federation. The History of Czechoslovak volleyball till 1945

The thesis is focused on history of volley-ball in period between Worlds war in Czechoslovakia. Volley-ball has arisen due to William G. Morgan in USA in 1895. This new play had quickly obtain a popularity and had expanded from USA to other countries of the World. To Czechoslovakia the volley-ball got in 1919, thanks to organization YMCA. In this thesis we´ll make out how volley-ball was expanded via courses of army and sport activities on universities. On expanding and popularization of volley-ball had a big credit officials in that period, especially Josef Amos Pipal, Josef František Machotka, J. W. Younger, Bohučest Škarda, František Miroslav Marek or Lewis William Reiss. In Czechoslovakia between worlds wars the volley-ball was used by many organizations, for example YMCA, YWCA, ČOS, DTJ, RTJ or FPT. A big role for development of volley-ball in Czechoslovakia played the tramp´s camps too. The popularity of volley-ball in period 1920s and 1930s had still grown. His development was not stopped neither during the 2nd World War which only slowed down this development and deprived of many good players.
YMCA such as a center of young people education in Czechoslovakia 1919-1951

Aim of this diploma work YMCA such as a center of young people education in Czechoslovakia 1919 {--} 1951 is to document activity and authority of this christian social-educative organization to the young in Czechoslovakia in the given years. The diploma work started up by virtue of analysis of archive materials stored in the National Archive in Prague, printed sources and study of scientific literature. Activity of the organization is monitored from period of her entry to Czechoslovakia to period of her disestablishment by communistic authoritarianism, during which time particularly educative sphere is accented with a view to activity at summer camps. Next to the chapters describing function of the organization against a background of various periods of historical evolution of Czechoslovak republic is paid a special attention to phenomenon of young people education at summer camps in a final chapter. This activity sphere of the organization is stressed above all, that YMCA effort in organization of the summer recreation was, in context to the others functional organizations (mainly scout movements), one of the most important in Czechoslovakia in that time.
