Cultural memory and urban space of Vršovice

The diploma thesis deals with cultural memory and urban space in the Vršovice district of Prague. The work is devoted to Vršovice as a whole, it presents Old and New Vršovice, including individual selected places. Vršovice developed mainly in the 50s and 60s of the 20th century, when new housing estates were created in Prague and urban space planning was in full swing after the war years. The work deals with the topic of memory and how this phenomenon manifests itself in culture and history. It follows several important places and buildings that have played a significant role in cultural memory and in building the identity of the inhabitants, and how these places have been affected by time and changes in society. It also tracks how big the changes were and how these places changed physically. It is mainly concentrated in the area of New Vršovice. The main reason is the greater dynamics of changes in this area. Another reason is the fact that the area of Old Vršovice has already been the subject of many studies and book titles. In this direction, New Vršovice is still a bit behind, and I would like to contribute to the study of New Vršovice. Urban space is, together with cultural memory, the main topic of this work. Cultural and Historical Development of Vršovice in the Years 1922-1977

The bachelor thesis will follow the cultural and historical development of Vršovice in the years 1922-1977, when Vršovice becomes a part of Great Prague. I analyze the key buildings that were built in this era. In the second part I will deal with the economic crisis and its consequences for Vršovice, which had a fatal impact on culture and led to the Second World War. I will also mention the memories of witness Bohumil Kobliha, a witness to the May Uprising 1945 in Vršovice. In the second part of the thesis I will deal with the building development in the 1950s and 1960s until 1977, when the construction of G 57 prefabricated houses ended. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the cultural and historical development of Vršovice in five decades. Baťa Department Stores in Prague

Baťa department stores are very numerous collection of building coming from the twenties and the thirties of the twentieth century and in many towns They represented the first apperance in modern architecture into historical centres. This study was reduced to eight buidings which were created in Prague. On one hand there are well- known department stores on Wenceslas Square or in Celetná street, on the other hand there are almost unknown buildings whose original function was forgotten. Research of primary sources and literature has allowed detailed presentation of particular buildings, their architectural history and changes which the department store had to undergo. Detailed descriptions have been used for reciprocal comparison and their inclusion into overall production of Baťa departments stores. At the same time the choice of Prague has permitted comparison with other department stores. The potential use of brownfields along the railway tracks in Prague

The bachelor thesis deals with a definition of the phenomenon of brownfields and its dividing according to various criterions. The thesis also interprets possibilities of funding brownfields either from public financial sources of the Czech Republic or from European Union's funds. A great part of the thesis is aimed on a development area of a railway brownfield on a boundary of Prague city parts Strasnice and Vrsovice. It focuses on history, legislative relations to real estates, building's condition and future development of the area.
