The death of L. I. Brežněv and it's reflection in czech newspapers

Bachelor thesis "The Death of L.I. Brezhnev and its Representation in the Czech Contemporary Press" illustrates the way in which contemporary journals informed the public about the death of Soviet leader Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev in November 1982. Research in this area will include the analysis of three Czechoslovak national newspapers (Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Svobodné Slovo) and one regional newspaper (Večerní Praha). The reference period of the study is November 1982 (from November 1st 1982 till November 31st 1982). The thesis will firstly analyze the way how contemporary journals wrote about Leonid Brezhnev during the time before his death (particularly we will search for any information in media connected to Brezhnev's deteriorating health condition), secondly it will research what kind of information media provided about Brezhnev's death and subsequent burial. Finally it will describe the image of Leonid Brezhnev presented by media in connection with the above mentioned events. The theoretical part of this thesis presents the personality of Leonid Brezhnev, who was the leader of the Soviet Union since 1964 when he was elected as the First Secretary of the Communist Party until his death in 1982 and it portrays his political career and the cult of his personality in the last years of his life. The media image of Prague underground in the contemporary press 1974-1990

Bachelor thesis "The media image of Prague underground in the contemporary press during the period 1974-1990" deals with presenting underground railway by daily press during the normalization and shortly after the velvet revolution in 1989. The author have chosen Lidová demokracie, Mladá fronta, Rudé právo a Večerní Praha as the sources. The thesis is focused on years 1974, 1978 and 1985 - during these years the underground line C, A and B were opened - and 1990, when the line A was prolonged. The thesis also describes the history of the underground in Czechoslovakia and interprets the contemporary and political context.

Stanislav Tereba: His Career and Photographic Style

The paper focuses the career of photographer Stanislav Tereba, the only Czech winner of the main World Press Photo Prize. He succeeded with the photography of Miroslav Čtvrtníček, the soccer goalkeeper, played in Prague, Letna stadium. The paper deals mainly with Tereba's work in evening paper Vecerni Praha where the winning photography was paid a great attention there. As well as a lot of journalists since the 1990's Tereba have faced the problems after the Velvet Revolution when his career nearly stopped as the media went to private ownership. Tereba's career is explored in the context of the development of sports photography in the Czech Republic. Tereba's photographic style is studied by using semiotic analysis and the method of compositional interpretation there. In addition, the work consists of a case study of Tereba's success in World Press Photo. Tereba's photography is compared to the other winning photographs as well as to the competition in 1959 when he was honored with the main prize at the expense of war photographs usually awarded. Attention is also paid to the creation of Tereba's winning photography from participation in the stadium to subsequent photo editing.
