Contribution to the Study of the Mesolithic Settlement in Bohemia

ČULÁKOVÁ, KATARÍNA. Contribution to the Study of the Mesolithic Settlement in Bohemia. Prague: Faculty of Arts, Charles University, 2015, 742 p. (including appendices and plates), PhD. thesis. This thesis wants to present lithic collections. Part of them come from an Eastern Bohemian region and part of them from the Bohemian Forest region. Firstly there is a description of how the collections were obtained. Most of the material comes from a surface survey, a smaller part comes from test pitting. A majority of the collections wasn't previously published and was processed for the purpose of this thesis, part of the information was obtained from published articles. This thesis presents a collection of 25 000 lithic pieces from Eastern Bohemia and 3 500 lithic pieces from the Bohemian Forest. At first there are the most numerous sites described according to their position in the landscape and composition of the lithic collection. Then there is a whole collection characterised according to the used raw material, typology and used technology. This information is incorporated into the wider frame of Central European mesolithics. Ethnographic and Folcloric Aspects in the Work of Eastern Bohemian Teachers

This diploma thesis is focused on the generation of committed teachers, regional eastern Bohemia patriotic activists that were interested in ethnography and folklore studies on the amateur level. The first part of the thesis introduces four profession-associates of the same generation, teachers from the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th Century. Subsequent chapters deal with wider cultural-historical context with the emphasis on the history of pedagogy and ethnology. In the thesis there is also the development of homeland studies depicted. These studies were introduced as compulsory at the beginning of 20th Century and were therefore suitable for deepening of the educational role of the school via ethnographical materials. The main focus of the thesis is on the intersection of homeland education and ethnographic activities of mentioned teachers (cooperation with professionals, interest in collecting…) as well as the analysis of their importance to the professional ethnography.
Landscape Composition of Count Frantisek Josef Schlik and the "Landscape Creation" around the Year 1700

This thesis describes the landscape composition of Czech Count Frantisek Josef Slik (Frantz Joseph Schlik, 1656-1740) and attempts to define the influences and principles which were involved in the formation of the landscape in the manors of Kopidlno, Stare Hrady and Velis- Voksice, now in the Czech Republic, during the life of the aristocrat. Frantisek Josef Schlik ruled the manors for over 60 years and during that time he was responsible for many architectural works with considerable landscape-forming and urbanistic potential. A series of visually interlinked chapels was erected in the Velis-Voksice manor. This series included the meierhof with a little palace in Voksice. This landscape composition has been discussed especially as regards its formal design, but its connection to the Count's motivation has been less well researched, as has been the broader social and, especially, religious context in the area. Another aspect that has been put aside, or not perceived within the context of the manorial landscape, were other structures which Frantisek Josef Schlik built or which were of essential importance for the activities in the manor. The bachelor thesis is focused on work with the inventories of memorable trees by František Hrobař. Based on field reconnaissance focused on the search of trees that are still in existence, it analyzes the concept and testimony of František Hrobař inventory of trees. The output of the thesis is the maps of the trees found, their inventory and the status evaluation. The work also analyzes the species composition and use of inventory trees from the viewpoint of folk landscaping.
The Art and patronage of the family Dobřenský from Dobřenice in the Eastern Bohemia

This bachelor thesis deals with the sacral art and the patronage of the family of lower aristocracy, who later become a count family, Dobřenský of Dobřenice in the territory of present-day eastern Bohemia. It focuses not only on the formal analysis and description of larger or smaller sacral structures, but also on the fate of significant members of the Dobřenský family. The main attention is paid to the church of St. Kliment in Dobřenice, in particular to its interior decoration. In the next chapters, the work focuses on other monuments connected with the Dobřenský family in places that they managed in the past: Neděliště, Ouhrov or Uhelná Příbram, as well as works of applied art. The Renaissance appearance of the chateau in Častolovice This thesis will deal with the appearance of the Renaissance chateau in Častolovice at a time when the owners of the estate were Oppersdorfs of Oppersdorf. This family rebuilt the original fortress into the Renaissance chateau. The major reconstruction took place between the years 1588 and 1615 during the possession of Fridrich of Oppersdorf. The thesis is primarily intended to introduce the apperance of the chateau, which had Frederick and his wife Magdalena of Donín built. First it approaches the historical context of the city Častolovice and the genus of Oppersdorf to relation with the chateau at this time. Then it will pursues the architectual development of the chateau during the property of Oppersdorfs. Finally it focuses on the fresco decorations of the courtyard and also marginally preserved parts of the Renaissance interior.
