Title: Viola of Těšín and her period Author: Tereza Blažková Department: History & History Didactics Department Supervisor: prof. PhDr. Kateřina Charvátová, CSc. Abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with Viola Elisabeth of Cieszyn. She was a Polish princess member of the House of Piast in the Cieszyn branch. She mar- ried the Bohemian king Wenceslaus III. The relevant sources and literature are presented in the thesis. Besides, the thesis provides a short story about specific roles of medieval queens. Furthermore, a few facts about the House of Piast and some other members of this dynasty, which Viola came from, are shown. The thesis also explores Wenceslaus III of Bohemia, facts about his marriage with Vi- ola Elisabeth of Cieszyn, Viola's life in the House of Premyslids, her sister-in-law Elisabeth Premyslid, and comparison of Viola and Elisabeth Richeza. The thesis provides information about Peter I of Rosenberg and his marriage with Viola, too. The last capture deals with depiction of Viola in fiction. The diploma thesis deals with the topic of illegitimacy of the last Přemyslids. The main focus of the thesis is to outline the life and careers of illegitimate children of the last Přemyslid kings. The core of the thesis deals with illegitimacy in the Middle Ages. In this recpect, the author tries to compare the conditions at the Prague Přemyslid court with other European countries, taking into consideration the historical context of that time. Last but not least, the author tries to evaluate the position of illegitimate children in the medieval society. Czech Kingdom in The Chronicle of Otakar of Styria

The subject of the Masters thesis The Czech Kingdom in The Chronicle of Otakar of Styria is the history of Czech Kingdom in the Otokar of Styrias versified cronicle. The goal of this work is a comprehensive view of that cronicle as a historic source of cetral European history during the second half of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century. The Masters thesis includes an evaluation the relationships between the central European sources of that time. It investigates both, the knetty question of the autor's live story and his motivation for writing a work around 100 000 verses. In particular chapters, various social groups, which the author focuses on, are examined (royal houses, aristocracy, burgher class, people). No particular social group can be considered in isolation. Thier interrelations are highlighted in the thesis. Following section introduces Otakar's description of certain central European regions (Austria, Styria, Carinthia, Hungary, Polen and the Holy Roman Empire), which is the foundation of my attempt to discover the cronicler's source and information base. Used method is based on the analysis of cronicle sources and the study of historical materials. The history of the Kingdom of Bohemia results from the above mentioned circumstances. Causes and consequences of the death of Wenceslas III, the last king of Přemyslid dynasty

This work deals especially with a question of causes of death of the last king of the dynasty of Czech Přemyslids, Wenceslas III. It deals with the most important milestones of rule of this sovereign, that preceded this act, and could be the reasons for the murder in Olomouc, in this way, ending four centuries of ruling Přemyslite tradition. Attention is also drawn to the character of the young king, to his relationship with Czech, Polish and Hungarian nobility and elite, with his sympathizers and opponents. Next the work points to characters of possible culprits involved in the alleged plot against the king. Subsequently, the work proceeds to the consequences of Olomouc murder. Disputes over the Czech throne, and the subsequent onset of the Luxembourg dynasty. The work is based on the relationship between written sources and the author's thoughts of the current literature. This work creates a space for own interpretation and self-reflection of one of the most important and breakthrough milestone of a history of Czech kingdom, which changed the form of Czech state. That prepared the way for coming of the great sovereign and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from Přemyslite bloodline, Charles IV.
