The Ideal City Brno: The New Stará Osada
Hladíková, Tereza ; Skála, Jiří (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
My master thesis deals with the urban locality Stará Osada, which is an artery of the urban district of Brno- Židenice. It is a social and transport hub for the Brno - Židenice district. Stará Osada is part of the wider city centre. This traffic junction is defined by a development of prefabricated houses, where the dominant feature of the environment is a thirteen-storey building. Stará Osada could be defined similarly to Mendel Square in Brno. Compared to Mendel Square, the space of Stará Osada is very fragmented, disorganised and people only use it as a transfer point for public transport. In connection with the construction of the New Armoury and the traffic tunnel, traffic calming on Gajdošova- Svatoplukova Streets, which currently form the city ring road, will be addressed in the future. Stará Osada has the potential to be a full-fledged centre of Židenice, which supports the development of the urban district, which the district strives for. The aim of the thesis is to design a public space in the form of a square with new buildings, supporting the development that is lacking in the urban district. The buildings, by their mass, will enclose and integrate the space of Stará Osada and will be a manifesto of a possible architectural and urbanistic solution for Stará Osada. The square and the adjacent buildings will provide the opportunity for increased social events and new housing.
Living with the river. Svitava transformation in Brno.
Bystroň, Tomáš ; Zadražilová, Miroslava (referee) ; Wittmann, Maxmilian (advisor)
The aim of the project is to transform the former factory site between Valchařská Street and the Svitava River. As pointed out in the pre-diploma thesis (BYSTROŇ Tomáš, Kde budeme bydlet Brno), the current function of the site no longer corresponds to the potential of the site. On the other hand, in terms of location and proximity to natural features, the site seems very favourable for the location of a new residential quarter, which will benefit from the waterfront and the surrounding parks and woodland, as well as from very good connections to public transport and through it to the centre of Brno.
Zlín FCK Technology
Hradilová, Barbora ; Kudla, David (referee) ; Štěpán, Marek (advisor)
The work deals with the influence of the environment on humans. The connection between man and nature. It alludes to the lack of exterior spaces, both private and semi-private (community). The work is a continuation of the pre-diploma project, which dealt with comfort in the urban environment.Within the specified area, a specific design of an apartment building is developed, which is enriched with external spaces.
Contemporary city
Zámečník, Kristián ; Joja, Milan (referee) ; Františák, Luboš (advisor)
To limit urban sprawl into the surrounding countryside, densification of development and use of neglected areas is necessary. In this thesis, I seek to address this by finding an ideal balance between density, open spaces and a diversity of functions that support the further development of the current area. The result should be a city that is viable, resilient and adaptable, delivering a quality living environment for its residents and supporting sustainable growth. A city that works as a whole with its new neighbourhood but is not overrun by it.
The Ideal City Žilina: Conversion of a former railway yard
Čuláková, Michaela ; Likavčanová, Lenka (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The subject of the thesis is the territory in Žilina city. It belongs to the Slovakian railways and has until now served as an unused area of the track. The current reconstruction of the railways will create a free area of almost forty-five hectares ready for conversion and new use. After the reconstruction, a railway line passes through the territory. The new use and structure respond to this condition. There will also be a new train stop on the route. The territory is the confluence of three rivers, the Váh, Kysuca, and Rajčianka, which is surrounded by greenery, and it was important to keep this natural character as much as possible. The large area of the territory has the prerequisites for the creation of a new urban district within walking distance of the city center. At the same time, the mix and diversity of land use support shorter walking distances and thus the support of non-motorized transport. An active waterfront, new public spaces, housing and employment opportunities, proximity, and connection of suburban areas have the potential to lighten the existing city center.
Kohnova cihelna (Kohn's brickyard ) – a carbon-neutral city
Hynšt, Lukáš ; Sátora, Josef (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
In recent years, there has been increasing talk of carbon-free districts, cities and even continents in the context of global warming, with intensive research into the possibilities and limits of this phenomenon. Also in this context, specific urban and architectural proposals are being developed more often than before. These proposals work with carbon-free technologies and building or urban elements that can reduce production of carbon emissions and its absorption into the atmosphere. This work also deals with this. Specifically, this work locates a new (mostly residential) district on the eastern side of Červený kopec, in the area of the former Kohn's Brickworks, and through the use of various urban design approaches and building technology solutions, it seeks to move towards achieving carbon neutrality for this complex. Author does so in the knowledge that he is not able to achieve an ideal state under the current conditions, but he considers it necessary to at least come as close to it as possible. In doing so, he applies the findings of his research on the topic of carbon neutral cities.
Koprivnice 3.0 - Housing A++
Šimková, Eliška ; Musálek, Filip (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The design of the urban and architectural study of the former handball field aims to serve as a potential solution to the issue of sustainable and affordable housing. The first part of the proposal focuses on the urban study of the former handball field in Kopřivnice. The area has transformed from a significant city locality into a parking lot over the past 20 years. The urban design responds to the adjacent Kopřivnička River and the proximity of the city center. The area thus becomes a gateway – into the city upstream along the Kopřivnička River, and out of the city toward nature. Among the aims of the proposal was to attract new residents to Kopřivnice, which led to the design of three buildings that reflect this need. The area includes a building with starter apartments, a women’s shelter for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence, and finally, a multifunctional building that supports the city’s economy while reflecting the needs of existing Kopřivnice residents. The second part of the proposal presents the architectural study of the women’s shelter. The concept and idea are based on reflections on in-depth interviews with social workers from various shelters. The building is designed to comply with legal regulations, the requirements of staff, and the safety of its residents. The design part of the urban and architectural study is based on insights gained from the theoretical and analytical parts.

Res Publica: ANNEXION / Brno – Římské náměstí (Roman´s Square)
Musálek, Filip ; Chládek, Pavel (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with possibilities of designing contemporary buildings in the historical context of the city center. Emphasis is placed on the urban integration of new volumes into the current structure of the city and the place with its genius loci. The result of the design should be houses with a character and clear layout, using high-quality materials, especially with different forms and modifications of the plaster that is typical for the construction industry in Central Europe. The suggestion is the author's answer to the question of a "normal house" in the city center.
