The reflection of German cinematography in the Czech film press 1936-1939

Bachelor thesis "Reflection of German cinematography in selected Czech film periodicals from 1936 till March 1939" records in what way Czech film periodicals reacted to the development and changes of the German cinematography in context of political and social transformations both nations underwent during the above-mentioned period. The thesis focuses on whether the film periodicals changed the way they reflected German cinematography during the period of escalating Nazi aggression towards Czechoslovakia and especially in the situation after the acceptance of Munich Agreement. The opening section covers broader historical and media context of Czechoslovakia in the era of the First Czechoslovak Republic. The next part describes and characterizes analysed film periodicals, weekly Kinorevue, Filmový kurýr and biweekly Filmové listy. Separate chapter is focused on German cinematography from its development during the period of mute films, throughout the changes caused by the introduction of audio films, until the German film industry was put under state control by Hitler and the film was used as a tool of Nazi propaganda. Transformations of Kinorevue newsreel in 1934-1945

Bachelor's thesis "Transformations of Kinorevue newsreel in 1934-1935" records the development of the popular film periodical during the above-mentioned period considering cultural and political development of the Czech society. The thesis deals with content and formal analysis of Kinorevue newsreel. The attention is paid to the personnel management of the magazine, its correspondents, important texts, features, graphical arrangement, range, price etc. A certain place is also given to the brief analysis of Kinorevue newsreel predecessor - Svět ve filmu a obrazech magazine. Brief characteristics of political and economical conditions in Czechoslovakia during the years 1930-1945 and a summary of the Czechoslovak cinametographical development in 1930s and during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia come before the analysis. Sections aimed at the genesis and development of the Czechoslovak film press and at the press regulation and controlling from the beginning of Czechoslovakia to the end of the World War Two are significant parts of the essay, too. The Bachelor's thesis is closed by the chapter summarizing and comparing every single period in Kinorevue newsreel development.

Radola Gajda, the general of the czechoslovak legions in Russia and one of the commanders of the army "supreme ruler of Russia", the siberian dictator Alexander Vasilevich Kolchak, the then general of the czechoslovak army, which in a short time reached to the highest place, after their overthrow fascist politician and leader of the main czechoslovak fascist party, Národní obec fašistická and participant of many scandals, is one of the most controversial figures in czech and czechoslovak history. On the one hand, a brilliant military leader, a born military commander, on the other hand, a person with sympathy for the authoritarian regimes and fascist parties, which president Tomáš G. Masaryk of his time considered one of the greatest threats to the czechoslovak democracy. The inconsistency of the person of general Gajda has led to the often very significant differences in the perception of this significant figure in our history during the different political regimes that took turns on the territory of the czech lands. The authoritarian regime of the Second Republic and the Czech Catholic elite

The thesis deals with the authoritarian regime of the Second Czechoslovak Republic (1938-1939) in its Czech part, with the reasons of its origin, its description and its placement in the contemporary context. It shows the share of Catholic, politic and social elites in its creation as well as in efforts to enforce the Christian character of the new regime. It considers then critical stances against democracy of the Catholic Church, it compares authoritarian regime of the Second Republic with similiar regimes in then Europe and it tries to morally and ethically evaluate then stances of the Czech elites. The thesis also deals with anti-Jewish and anti-Gypsy measures of the Second Republic, and it tries to offer a valuable lesson from its development. Milena Jesenská and her work for Lidové noviny and Přítomnost

The thesis deals with the journalistic works of Milena Jesenská not only in Lidové noviny but also in the magazine Přítomnost in 1929 - 1930, resp. in 1937 - 1939. In her works we can find a number of repetitive topics. Most of them have in large part roots in her life. Her literaty output is permanently penetrated by her permanent need to help her surroundings and to protect her weaker residents, which is according to author's biographers for Milena Jesenská sheer crucial. The author stood in the years 1929 - 1930 as the head of women's section of Lidové noviny and was trying very hardly to fight for the change of the form of this section in the print at that time. Another significant topic was the issue of a modern woman and her role in the society at that time. The thesis deals also with the resonance of social relations and historic events in the examined texts. Politically tuned reflections or reports and reportage by Milena Jesenská in the magazine Přítomnost bring an authentic perspective to the atmosphere in the Czechoslovak society at that time.
The second Czechoslovak republic in theoretical perspective

This thesis will deal with a topic of the second Czechoslovak republic as a case of authoritarian situation, which transforms into authoritarian regime. The regime of the second republic will be compared with similar cases of interwar Portugal and Austria. Also, conditions of establishing democracy and its preservation, the influence of individual branches of the nondemocratic right on breakdown of democracy, authoritarian situation and building of authoritarian regime will be analyzed. In the end, this thesis will focus on cases of borrowing elements of fascist political style by mentioned regimes.
