Horák, Vladimír ; Polášek, Tomáš (referee) ; Čadík, Martin (advisor)
The goal of this work is to create an open-source 2D virtual tabletop for the board game Dungeons and Dragons and similar TTRPG games, which implement some bonus features, leading to better gaming experience. The main improvement is in extending the toolbox of other virtual tabletops by adding support of multiple layers, improved inventory support and automation of some time-consuming elements like area of effect spells. In addition the game will run directly on local devices, improving performance and removing limits of storage capacity and file size, which are common among cloud based virtual tabletops.

This thesis examines the RPG game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and its players in the Czech Republic. Although, D&D is primarily a game that uses physical components such as paper character sheets or dice, technology has also found its way to it, which is no surprise because current world is full of new technologies. The aim of this work is to examine the motivation of players to play, what role mediation plays, what technologies are used in playing and what are the main differences players perceive in the case of face-to-face session and in the case of online session. Research questions dealing with these topics are answered through semi-structured interviews with a total of eight players and two participant observations of a player group's session. The most important reasons to play are the social and creative aspects of the game - players play with others, with whom they often form long-term friendships, and enjoy creating and using their imagination to create unique characters, narratives and worlds. D&D is also a source of inspiration for them. The main differences in offline and online game are especially in sociality and opportunities for communication, which is related to the atmosphere and experience, which in the case of face-to-face game...

Many players like to play strategic and RPG games. Nowadays, is almost necessary, that player can play against players all over the world, which will be the key element in designing and implementation of our game. The goal of the thesis is to design and im- plement a 3D computer game with multiplayer mode with action and strategic elements, which is played from a third-person view while using modern tools for creating games. The player can gather wood from trees in the world, which can be used to either build or upgrade structures and creating nonplayer entities, that are gathering this resource by themselves. In the game, we can found neutral buildings. When they are captured, they produce other types of resources, which can be used for equipment to be able to fight against other players. The goal of the game is to destroy the enemy's main building. The game offers multiplayer mode 1v1, where any player around the world can connect and play. The game is implemented using the Unity game engine, which offers wide options for game creation. In this thesis, we are solving matchmaking problems and implementing our own solution, which offers players to either create or connect to a game. Within pro- blem analysis, we discuss choosing the best framework supporting creating multiplayer games inside Unity, or we...
