Dvořáčková, Věra ; Oliva, Karel (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee) ; Uhlířová, Ludmila (referee)
This year the Institute of the Czech Language AS CR (Ustav pro jazyk cesky AV CR) is celebrating the 100th anniversary of foundation of its direct predecessor, the Office of the Dictionary of the Czech Language (Kancelar Slovniku jazyka ceskeho, KSJC) which provided the administrative background for an ambitious lexicographic project launched already in 1905 by the committee for lexicography and dialectology the Czech Academy of Emperor Franz Joseph for sciences, literature and art, to become the Czech Academy for Sciences and Art (CAVU) in 1918. Although much was done between the wars to establish a state-funded language institute, i.e. an institution which would unify the all-encompassing research of language and systematic work with the national language, for financial reasons the Czech Language Institute was established only in 1946. Prague Linguistic Circle and its Influence on Modern Linguistics.
VOKÁČOVÁ, Veronika
The theoretical part of my bachelor work is focused on characteristics of the Prague Linguistic Circle, its developmental stages, members and membership and theses. It also describes two significant theoretical conceptions: functional perspective and classification of language functions according to Roman Jakobson. Jakobson's classification of the functions of language and its application onto the text collectively with qualitative analysis are subjects of exploration of the practical part of my bachelor work.
A hundred-year battle over Mácha. Karel Hynek Mácha between the Prague Linguistic Circle and the Czechoslovak Literary Historical Society
Fořt, Bohumil
Among others, to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Karel Hynek Mácha, two important collective works were published: Karel Hynek Mácha. Osobnost, dílo, ohlas published in 1937 by Czechoslovak Literary Historical Society and Torso a tajemství Máchova díla published in 1938 by Prague Linguistic Circle. Both organisations in the 1930's embodied certain counterparts in the field of Czech literary criticism - not only that both groups come from completely different methodological backgrounds, but they also participated in crucial scholarly and educational projects connected with access to both financial sources, as well as to a wider influence over literary critical practice. The comparison of the collective works written and set by members of both groups enable us to view the entire ideas and methods of both groups and to connect them with the influence they had over literary scholarly investigation in Czechoslovakia.
