Utilization of Maria Montessori Pedagogy Teaching Aids in Classes with Mentally Handicapped Pupils

The aim of the Bachelor's thesis is to evaluate a long-term use of Marie Montessori's teaching aids in education of pupils with mental impairment. The theoretical part outlines a new paradigm of the whole discipline of special pedagogy and defines the subject and objectives of psychopaedia. A separate chapter is The following chapter explains the term mental disability and the development of the related terminology. Dedicated to the teaching of pupils with special educational needs. The last chapter describes the scientific education of Marie Montessori, the principles of Montessori pedagogy as an alternative way of education and is being concentrated on prepared didactic material and its use in work with children with mental deficiency - mental development disorder. The research process in the practical part is implemented by the method of qualitative approach and the research design of case study and partly multiple case study too. Furthermore, there were implemented qualitative data collection techniques such as the method of participated observation and in-depth interview, an analysis aimed at looking into the level of school skills and the results of activity in specific areas during one school year. A researcher's diary and documentation study were used as well. The concluding part presents the succesfull confirmation of the given aim based on the research and obtained theoretical fidings. There is an evaluation and analysis of the achieved educational goals in particular subject matter of Mathematics with a long-term application of Montessori pedagogy teaching aids while teaching particular pupils with mental handicap/disability. The use of other aids of this pedagogical system even outside the observed area proved to be beneficial.
Using Montessori learning materials for teaching persons with Down syndrome

This thesis examines how can Montessori teaching aids be used for educating persons with Down syndrome. It describes Down syndrome and mental disability that is associated with it, listing also the options for educating persons with Down syndrome by development stage. It provides an overview of Montessori pedagogics, its history, concepts and principles, and its status in the Czech Republic. It classifies Montessori pedagogics in terms of general didactics theory, and introduces Montessori therapy. The author connects Montessori to other human- centric didactic and pedagogical systems, such as structured teaching, global reading approach, Reuven Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment, sensory activation, basal stimulation, and psychobiography. She explains the role of teaching aids in the Montessori system and describes the materials she is using in her lessons for persons with Down syndrome. The aim and structure of such lessons are described, together with how to work with clients and their families. The author emphasizes the importance of entry diagnostics, and presents three case studies of her clients. Teaching Aids Book is attached to the thesis, presenting 92 aids. For each teaching aid, it includes a description, modifications aimed for the use of clients with Down syndrome, and diagnostic...
Use of teaching aids in geometry of primary school

of the thesis:: The topic of the thesis are aids for teaching geometry at the primary school. The theoretical part presents the potential benefits of the teaching aids use in connection with the cognitive process of the pupil and the educational aims of geometry. The practical part focuses on the situation in schools, presents aids that are used, and how they are used. It is based on survey focused especially on primary school teachers. A separate chapter is devoted to aids which are used in Montessori schools. It features names of geometry aids and how they are used. In the last thesis part are formulated didactic principles for working with the teaching aids in geometry and two experiments showing possible aids usage. Aids in these experiments fulfill its purposes, which are mentioned in the theoretical part, and therefore their use has been beneficial.
