Ukraine War Through the Eyes of Czech Reporters

The bachelor's thesis deals with war reporting from the war in Ukraine and its specifics through the eyes of Czech reporters who were present in the country themselves. The objective is to look at the work of journalists in this armed conflict from their viewpoint because they are the most knowledgeable on the topic and they deal with war reporting long-term and comprehensively. Based on the data obtained, the work aims to clarify what obstacles the reporters encountered during reporting and what caused them. The research - semi-structured in-depth interviews - was analyzed using the grounded theory method. In the form of interviews, the insights of six reporters who reported on the war in the period of February- August 2022 are put into context. At the end of the work, the main obstacles that journalists encountered while reporting on this war are stated, as well as the proposal of possible solutions of how they can be eliminated in the future.
The transformation of the press releases into the media texts

The diploma thesis " The transformation of the press releases into the media texts" deals with criteria according to what journalists make decisions, what press release should be included into the news and what should not. Since the present media studies perceive gatekeeping as a broader process of information control involving all aspects of message encoding, therefore not just a selection but also a compilation, a transmition, a formation and the timing of information transmition from a supplier to a recipient, the diploma thesis also pursues the transformation process of a press release into a media text itself. The diploma thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part includes the gatekeeping process analysis, the pseudoevent problems analysis and news production routinization analysis. This chapter summarizes the knowledge to the topic from scholarly literature. The second and the principal part of the diploma thesis is the practical and application part. This part argues a personal and a creative approach to a chosen problem solution. The premediate defined hypothesis are being disproved or approved on the basis of a practical research. Deloitte as an example of corporate agenda building in the Czech media

The thesis provides an insight into corporate agenda-building process in the Czech media. Using the Czech division of Deloitte as an example, the thesis will demonstrate the common practices companies use to get their topics published in media, how they are successful and how they really influence the media agenda. To answer these questions, the thesis uses quantitative content analysis of 248 pieces of news from Mladá Fronta DNES, Hospodářšké noviny, Lidové noviny, Právo, television stations ČT24, Nova and Prima and also radio station Český rozhlas - Radiožurnál. Besides that, the thesis will provide an insight into the way journalists work with sources of information and their autoregulative techniques, as well as into the work of PR professionals, who are significant actors in the agenda-building process. The aim of this thesis is to introduce the corporate sphere as an influential actor in the agenda-building process and to uncover the influences journalists have to face in their work.
ČT Sport Newsroom without Editor in Chief.Where are its Limits?

This diploma thesis called ČT sport newsroom without an editor-in-chief. Where are its limits? focuses on the leadership of sports newsroom, which operated without editor-in-chief between the years 2013 and 2019. In January 2020 the sports department was reorganized thus there is the editor-in-chief at the head of the organization since then, who manages the organization in terms of journalism. The researcher paid attention to the analysis of both possible structures. In the theoretical part, the author describes possible organizational structures according to which the organization can be structured. She focuses on media routines and history and the presence of the sports newsroom, but she is mostly targeting the hierarchy of the department. The empirical part is based on 14 in-depth interviews with workers of the newsroom, who describe how the sports department works and point out the positives and negatives of the system. The research took place in two phases. The first one before the restructuring of the department, the second one a few months after. The result is, how the sports newsroom according to its employees worked in this kind of atypical structure.
Media agenda building in czech news coverage on the example of health news

The main objective of this thesis is to describe agenda building process in Czech news media on the example of health news. The thesis is based on the concept of agenda-setting which operates with the term "media agenda". The fundamental question of media agenda building is how and why some topics get to the news while others not. Two separate pieces of research have been conducted for the purpose of this thesis. Firstly quantitative content analysis explores how selected Czech news media report on health news during 2013. The analysis is focused on daily press Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny, Právo, Česká televize TV news, and Český rozhlas radio news. Secondly, interviews with journalists who are or were devoted to the health news describe media routines forming media content. The result based on the two research methods is a description of health newsgathering. Particularly, the issues in question are how health journalists receive ideas for their stories, what motivates them, who forms health news, what role plays intermedia agenda, public relations materials or human stories.
