This diploma thesis deals with alternative and augmentative communication systems using at the individuals with pervasive development disorders. Thesis is divided the theoretical and the experimental part. Theoretical part contains mainly informations about communication disability, speech development, diagnosis of communication abilities, alternative and augmentative communication systems and possibilities of aid to the families with child with pervasive development disorder. Experimental part presents research using questionnaire, which was send to the parents or legal representatives with child with pervasive development disorder. The research prepares base for next extensive researchs.

Makaton

I am concerned with the description of the alternative and augmentative forms of communication in this bachelor thesis. Mainly, I am focused on the communicational systems which use manual activity. The main topic of this thesis is Makaton, the communicational means combining speech and manual signs. I compare the signs of the Czech Sign Language with the signs of Czech Makaton in the practical part of the thesis. I am focused on Makaton's signs which are influenced by the Czech Sign Language and they were developed from the certain changes in parameters of the sings from the Czech Sign Language (the shape of the hand, the place of articulation, move, the orientation of the hand etc.). I summarize the manners how were the sings of Czech Makaton created and I generalise the potential strategies during the parameter changes in sings of the Czech Sign Language. Furthermore I present the casuistic of children who use Makaton for communication and I show their parent's experience which I gained by the personal meeting and by interviewing mothers of these children. Key words: Alternative and augmentative communication, the methods of AAC, the methods of AAC without tools, Makaton, the Makaton dictionary, comparing sings of the Czech Sign Language and Makaton.
