For my bachelor thesis I was designing a new city gallery in Litomyšl. Part of my work was to analyze the city and find a suitable plot. In my case, this plot is between streets Havlíčkova, Zahájská and A.Tomíčka and it is located by the northen part of the very city centre. My goal was to design a new building for the gallery which supports informal and urban atmosphere. That way the gallery is not just an important cultural institution but it serves also as a meeting place. It is a place where everyday life merges with the gallery life. This is due to the combination of the gallery and a small apartement building and due to intentional merge of gallery and non-gallery working space.

My thesis is the result of the study of relationship between architecture and art, theoretically and practically. It addresses the issue of involving the Municipal Gallery as an important institution in the context of a small town. It asks how to exploit the potential of the city and its historical layers in creating space for an exhibition, what is the appropriate location and how the exhibition space in the 21st century should work.

Iconographic decoration of the Portmoneum in Litomyšl in context of Váchal's symbolic work

This Bachelor thesis focuses on iconographical characterisation and the analysis of the Portmoneum, that is located in Litomyšl. The decor of the current museum of Josef Váchal and decyphering the symbols used in this house is followed by the analysis of author's other work and placing the artist into the historical context of his time. The research of the Portmoneum's murals that I put into context with Vachal's total work using a comparative method is crucial in this thesis. Decyption of these hidden symbols and search for similar themes and their following analysis reprezents an important part of this thesis. Outside Litomyšl this thesis also deals with the complicated personality of Josef Váchal, his life, his art and starting points, with the figure of the passionate collector Josef Portman and their mutual relation oscillating between friendship and misunderstanding. The thehis focuses on particual art pieces across the artistic spectrum, in which the topics of mystical and spiritual nature can be found. These topics are present throughout his rich work and they become a common feature connecting his work.

Lost (damned) time in school? History of the Grammar School in Litomyšl during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia

The diploma thesis deals with the history of the grammar school in Litomyšl during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. It outlines the establishment of the grammar school in Litomyšl and describes its development and transformation between 1939 and 1945 in the context of political, economic and social changes. It discusses the school education system during the protectorate period, the course of the school year and the newly established institutions (Board of Trustees for the Education of Youth in Bohemia and Moravia, Youth of the National Partnership), as well as about the leisure activities of the youth. It records changes in education focusing on some of the subjects (Czech, history, German). It also concentrates on students and teachers and their problems during the Nazi occupation. Last but not least, it mentions some of the specific names of the Grammar School in Litomyšl associated with the resistance, the second martial law and the persecution of Jews. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate the life of students and teachers at schools during the protectorate period, and what obstacles the mentioned people had to face, using one of the grammar schools as an example. The Grammar School in Litomyšl in the Context of the Political Changes of the 20th century

The Grammar School in Litomyšl in the Context of the Political Changes of the 20th Century The dissertation discusse about grammar school in Litomyšl in the background of social changes in 20th century. It shows circumstances of origin of grammar school in Litomyšl and it describes its development and difficulties during an evolution. It focuses on staff, students, teaching subjects, foundation and student's activities. There are numbers of students in taught religion, catechists in individual school events and books used in lessons. It also shows other studies of absolvents. It says about difficulties of both war conflicts. Furthermore, it describes the events after 1948, which peaks by the process in Litomyšl with the students of grammar school and the rector František Ambrož Stříteský. There is a mention of the anniversary celebrations of grammar school as well. Litomyšl of Albert from Šternberk

The medieval study Litomyšl of Albert from Šternberk is a fusion of two historiographical methods. Regionally-historical and biographical. These methods lead to the unusual view of this issue, which had already been established in literature. This paper focuses mainly on the history of bishopric in Litomyšl and its center (town and domain). The author tries to look at this topic through Albert from Šternberk, who was an important imperial prelate-diplomat and also a bishop of Litomyšl during years 1364-1368 and 1371-1380. In order to maintain a complexity of this topic, it is essential to focus on both Alberts live and genesis of young Litomyšl diocese. For this reason the first part of the study is an analysis of emergence and formation of bishopric in Litomyšl, which is followed by a comprehensive study of Albert's political live. Than, the author gets to the very issue of the relationship between the monitored prelate and his Litomyšl dioceses and he tries to look at this relationship from several different perspectives. The reason for using this approach is an effort to speak out against the persistent view, that Litomyšl bishops in the era of Karl IV. State castle Litomyšl library. The history of the library collection, the analysis and cataloguing of its greatest part

The subject of this diploma thesis is the library of the state castle Litomyšl that was created as a product of the state institutions in the second half of the 20th century. The thesis deals with the topic in two fundamental segments - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part provides comprehensive processing of the library history and analysis of the particular unit especially from the topical, chronological and geographical point of view. The paper also focuses on the language, provenance as well as physical condition of the books and especially the graphics of the prints. From a thematic point of view, particular emphasis is placed on the most interesting, though not very numerous, group of religious prints and manuscripts. The practical part of the thesis, which consists in the cataloguing of the fund, brings the greatest factual contribution, especially to Národní památkový ústav that will therefore obtain a complex overview on one of its collections, but also to specialized public, for whom the composition of the catalogue means the possibility of the research use.

Comprehensive urban analysis focusing on transport issues of selected public space in Litomyšl

The bachelor´s thesis focuses on the urbanistic analysis, public space and transport issues in Litomyšl’s town centre. It introduces the transport problems of Smetana´s square with regard to an improvement of public space quality. The first part describes current situation and the square´s development. The second part focuses on the space analysis and their current problems and limits due to which the public space loses its quality and future development is no more possible. The third part describes possible variants, which minimize the problems and limits or even eliminate them. At the end of the work is the best solution for revitalization suggested in order to develop public space with preserving the urban concept of the town centre.
