Pavel Haas: Chamber Works with Violin
Petříková, Šárka ; PAZDERA, Jindřich (advisor) ; MATOUŠEK, Bohuslav (referee)
The Master’s thesis Pavel Haas: Chamber Works with violin looks into his three string quartets in the context of this composer’s life. It evaluates Haas’s composing style and his visions, and generally takes it in the context of his era. The thesis is focused on his String Quartet Number One C Sharp Minor, String Quartet Number Two „From the Monkey Mountains,“ and String Quartet Number Three Op. 15. It consists of a brief history of its premieres, analysis and a special chapter about the difficulties of interpretation. The next chapter is about the comparison of recordings, which includes the first contemporary recording made by The Hawthorne String Quartet, the recording of Kocianovo kvarteto as a representative of traditional Czech chamber music school and the recordings of two Czech young generation quartets, Pavel Haas Quartet and Bennewitz Quartet. One of the chapters is focused on Pavel Haas’s Quartet, which is named after him.
Czech school viola play
Mokrá, Eva ; Tomášek, Jiří (advisor) ; Kubátová, Gabriela (referee)
I focus on viola performances in the Czech surroundings in my thesis. I follow the topic of my Bachelor thesis. I resume the history of the instrument playing in my introduction; then I follow the development to the string quartet from its origin - turn of the 19th and 20th centuries until today. I analyze the artistic career of some chosen quartets, which are characteristic for certain period. I especially take notice of important Czech viola players (Herold, Škampa). I introduce two contemporary figures of the viola play (Doležal, Pěruška) in the practical part and I offer comparison of the interpretations of Dvořák's compositions done by three different string quartets from different periods.

Annotation in English My graduation work talking about the Czech string quartets shows the description about the most important and in my opinion the most successful string quartets in the Czech Republic that has strongly influenced the way of musical apperance of the contemporary string quartets in the CR. I am putting into my graduation work the information about the Czech string quartet chronologically in the historical order starting with the Czech String Quartet. My intention is, also, to provide the information about the job activities of the Czech contemporary string quartets that are representing the Czech culture and the musical tradition abroad. I am observing, through my graduation work, the way how the Czech string quartets change the musical interpretations that has been changed after several decades. However, there are no doubt that the Czech string quartets are still representing our country abroad.
