Josefa Menšíková and civil society of Německý Brod in the second half of the nineteenth century

In my diploma thesis I deal with the history of the Německý (today Havlíčkův) Brod in the nineteenth century. I am watching the fate of Josefa Menšíková, Czech patriot and the local mayor's wife. But the diploma work is not limited to one region. Partly I devoted to the town history of Třebíč and Tišnov or phenomenon of Czech emigration to the United States related to the area of Nebraska. Throughout my diploma thesis, I notice the local self-government of the Německý Brod, transformation of the city and its inhabitants and fates of Josefa Menšíková friends. Liberal political thought in the works of Karel Havlíček Borovský

This bachelor thesis focuses on analysis of political thought in the works of Karel Havlíček Borovský - the founder of political journalism in Bohemia. It tries to prove that there's good reason to deal with Havlíček's personality as relevant part of European liberal thought in the 19th century. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first one describes history of liberal thought till the end of 19th century. The second part characterizes Havlíček's life and puts emphasis on his journalistic career. The third and also the main chapter analyses representative elements of Havlíček's liberal philosophy. The author is convinced that Havlíček can be regarded as one of few thinkers who stand at the beginning of the way to social liberalism.
Biographical and literary connection of Božena Němcová in Polná

The bachelor thesis is focused on the life of Božena Němcova in the city of Polna. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to explain why the family of Božena Němcová moved to the city of Polna. A profile of region of Polna is added to the thesis. Moreover, the sociocultural life of the time of Bozena Nemcova is compared with sociocultural life of nowadays. The main aim of the thesis is the classification and explanation of biographical data. These data are accessible due to primary and secondary specialized literature. Evaluation of a private life of the family of Bozena Nemcova enlarges the thesis. The thesis also focuses on the persona of Michael Florian whose work is consisted of six pieces of xylographs. These xylographs are connected to the life of Bozena Nemcova. Interpretative analysis of literary texts is significant because of reflecting life of Bozena Nemcova in the city of Polna. A mention of a statue of Nemcova is a very topical issue thanks to revealing in June 2017. The whole thesis is a drawn up contribution to local literary-historical research.

Editorial processing of Karel Havlíček's correspondence: comparison of existing editions

Aim of thesis is comparison of editorial treatment of Karel Havlíček Borovský's correspondence and reconstruction of editorial methods and principles which editors followed. It is also discovery how substantially the editions correspond with each other and which procedures and changes they adopt. Part of the thesis pays attention to description of language and orthography in Havlíček's correspondence. For the comparison the sample of epistolary units identical to most of the editions was chosen and from analysis between autographs and particular editorial treatments procedures of every edition were reconstructed. In the analysis the changes are evaluated according to current linguistic and orthographic codification, on the contrary, summarised principles are evaluated according to contemporary codification. Based on previous data the editions are compared afterwards. The research revealed that older editions bear only tendencies of regular corrections, while in later editions the regular corrections and editorial principles are evident. But neither these do comply with current requirements of editorial practice. According to predictions, character of corrections also revealed which methods the editions adopted from each other. The Role of Russia in the Czech Political Context according to K. H. Borovský and T. G. Masaryk

The role of Russia in the European context underwent a very interesting development from the 19th century onwards. The Czech political elite's attitude towards Russia is very interesting as it kept changing from the 19th to the 20th century. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the different tendencies towards the role of Russia in the Czech political context. This thesis focuses on the role of Russia in the works of Karel Havlíček Borovský and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Other significant politicians will be mentioned as well, such as František Palacký or Karel Kramář, with a special focus on their attitudes towards the role of Russia in the Czech political context.
