Přístupy kolumbijských vlád k mírovému procesu
Valášková, Barbora
This bachelor's thesis analyzes and compares the approaches of individual Colombian governments to the peace process with a primary focus on the last three presidential administrations. The introductory part describes the history of Colombia's internal conflict with an emphasis on the period after the events of La Violencia. The main part of the work is focused on the analysis of peace negotiation strategies and describes the factors determining the partial successes and failures of the administrations of the three presidents Andrés Pastrana, Álvaro Uribe, and Manuel Santos between 1998 and 2018, while each of them contributed to a different extent to the conclusion of the final peace agreement in November 2016
Currency warfare in civil war: The impact of the weaponisation and targeting of currencies in the Biafran war
Confidence, Jennifer Ezi-Nwa ; Dowd, Caitriona (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
Currency warfare is an actor's use of monetary or military force against an enemy's monetary power. This could manifest in the form of counterfeiting, and currency change, among others. Currency warfare is used as part of a military campaign, either prior to a military conflict or implemented side by side with a military conflict. This kind of warfare plays a crucial role in cutting off the war financing capability of an enemy. Despite its strategic usefulness in military campaigns, our knowledge of currency warfare is poor, even more in internal conflict, because most of the available research focuses on international conflict. For this research, the focus is on civil war to identify how the currency changes by both the government and rebel group (Biafrans) helped to increase or decrease the duration and severity of the conflict. This study on the Biafran war case developed a currency warfare theory for lack of available theory to guide the research. The theory established certain strategic functions; bankruptcy, arms shortage, loss of territory, limited access to foreign currency, hunger and famine, and static conflict zone, as the themes that determine currency warfare's impact on severity and duration. Relying on this, findings indicate that the currency change by Nigeria helped shorten the...
The concept of "Responsibility to Protect" and the international community. The case of Sudan
Linková, Zuzana ; Werkman, Kateřina (advisor) ; Hynek, Nikola (referee)
The thesis "Concept Responsibility to Protect Within International Community: Sudan Case Study" focuses on the R2P concept and its implications since its approval at the World Summit in 2005. The theoretical part of the thesis explains the R2P concept, its constitution, the three pillars and their main principles, and categories of crimes on which the concept can be applied. This section includes an analysis of attitudes, which the key international actors adopted towards the R2P. The last chapter of the theoretical part examines the main problems, challenges and difficulties of the concept which could the international community face when implementing the concept. The practical part of this thesis relates to the conflict in Darfur. Its first chapter deals with the evolution of tensions in Sudan, which had affected the current conflict. The second chapter focuses on the present conflict since its beginning in 2003, including the debate about the possibility of potential genocide committed by the Sudanese government. The involvement of the key international actors (the UNSC and AU) in the conflict is discussed in this part as well. Finally, the last part interconnects the concept through the three pillars with the conflict and; it evaluates functioning of the R2P in the case of Sudan. The evaluation...

Hidden Auto-Conflict in the Theory of Belief Functions
Daniel, M. ; Kratochvíl, Václav
Hidden conflicts of belief functions in some cases where the sum of all multiples of conflicting belief masses being equal to zero were observed. Relationships of hidden conflicts and auto-conflicts of belief functions are pointed out. We are focused on hidden auto-conflicts here - on hidden conflicts appearing when three or more numerically same belief functions are combined. Hidden auto-conflict is a kind of internal conflict. Degrees of hidden auto-conflicts and full non-conflictness are defined and analysed. Finally, computational issues of hidden auto-conflicts and non-conflictness are presented.
Comparison of insurgentl organizations in Colombia and Peru
Mochanová, Tereza ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (advisor) ; Doboš, Bohumil (referee)
This bachelor thesis studies the formation and development of insurgentl movements operating in Colombia and Peru. The main attention is given to the two most signifiant groups, namely the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Shining Path (SL). Activities of these movements in the second half of the 20th century greatly crippled the stability and prosperity of the state. The aim of this study is to find similarities and differences between the origin and subsequent evolution of the two rebel groups. The emphasis is on the criteria of the establishment of organizations, program background, clashes with armed forces and official negotiations with the governments of the countries concerned. The basic method used is the analysis of historical data and information and their subsequent comparison.

An Interpretation of Conflicting Parts of Belief Functions on Two-Element Frame of Discrement
Daniel, Milan
When combining belief functions by the conjunctive rules of combination, conflicts often appear, which are assigned to empty set by un-normalized conjunctive rule or normalized by Dempster's rule of combination. This contribution is devoted to an interpretation of the conflicting part of a belief function on a two-element frame of discernment. It is based on the author's idea of the unique decomposition of such function into its conflicting and non-conflicting part (CJS 2010, Otaru). A relation of conflicting part of a belief function to internal conflict of the function is also studied and a new definition of internal conflict is introduced. New internal conflict is compared with the previous approaches. Keywords: Belief function, Dempster-Shafer theory, uncertainty, Dempster's semigroup, internal conflict, conflict between belief functions, non-conflicting part of belief function, conflicting part of belief function.
