Persistent water pollutants: case of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid in the Czech Republic
Prášek, Jan ; Šauer, Petr ; Keprtová, Karolína
Reuse and recycling of products composed of natural matter is relatively without significant environmental problems. However, recycling of products produced using modern synthetic technologies often brings new challenges. Our analysis has shown that substitution of citric acid with artificial substance of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid causes important environmental problems. The case study carried out in the Elbe river basin shows that the ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid concentration standard has been exceeded, particularly from confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers. Open questions and tasks for future technological development and environmental policies are formulated, particularly the idea to replace artificial substances with nature-based ones. This would enable better introduction of circular economy ideas in the use of resources.

Prioritization of the Chairman's Roles in the European Union: A Comparison of the Behaviour of the 2022 French and Czech Presidencies in the Field of Environmental Policy
Moserová, Natálie ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
The roles played by Council presidencies are a pertinent area to study, yet it has been insufficiently explored. The Czech Republic has recently experienced its second presidency in the Council which ended in December 2022. It has followed the French presidency, the first state of the same trio. This gives us a unique occasion to study the prioritization of chairman's roles by comparing the behaviour of these two members of one trio presidency presidencies at all levels of the Council for Environment. The legislative files in environmental area were intensively negotiated during the French and Czech presidencies, especially the "Fit for 55" package. Based on the theories on specific activities connected to each role of presidency (political leader, mediator, manager and representant), we analyse these roles and the way by which the consecutive French and Czech presidencies have played them in environmental field. We compare the role prioritization of these chairmen based on the weight attached to individual roles (except for the representant role) by the presidencies. A complementary part of the thesis investigates diverse factors derived from the rationalist approach (the power of the country, the approach to environmental policy, French presidential elections) and sociological approach...
České politické strany a jejich pozice k European Green Deal
Kousalíková, Kristýna
The diploma thesis examines the attitudes of the Czech parliamentary parties to the European Green Deal - a new EU strategy for green growth, which is to make Europe the first climate - neutral continent. The main goal of this work is to identify the way in which parliamentary parties construct the European Green Deal. To fulfill this goal, an analysis of political discourse is performed. The results of the analysis are further embedded in broader environmental discourses, which were defined in the theoretical part of the work. By identifying these general environmental discourses, key assumptions are identified that influence the general way in which the parties view the relationship between society, the economy and the environment. The research revealed the existence of very different ways of constructing the European Green Deal by the Czech parliamentary parties and thus pointed out their different perceptions of the relationship between society, the economy and the environment.
Multilevel governance in environmental policy: a comparative analysis of Republic of Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany
Čuprová, Barbora ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Tesař, Jakub (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyse the nature of multi-level governance in climate protection policy in Germany and Austria and to compare the analysed cases. The concept of multilevel governance is used as the theoretical basis of the thesis, the key idea of which is the mutual integration and influence of the levels of governance. Using this concept, the thesis analyses the horizontal and vertical levels of policy making and implementation involving both state and non-state actors. The analysis is carried out through four features of multilevel governance, predefined on the basis of an analysis of the literature, which are: diffusion of competences, non-hierarchical institutional framework, consensus-based decision-making and the principle of partnership. These features are also the dimensions on the basis of which the selected cases are compared. The multi-level governance in the climate protection policy of Germany and Austria is then classified on the basis of the typology of Liesbet Hooghe and Gary Marks. The thesis also includes an analysis of the instruments and policy processes of climate policy in both countries, which will provide insight into the role and influence of the different levels of governance in the formation of policy in the analysed area of governance.
The impact of international linkages on the behaviour of environmental non-governmental organisations
Suchá, Magdaléna ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee)
Master's Thesis Magdaléna Suchá Summer 2021/2022 Abstract The growing number of NGOs has also resulted in the growing interest of academics in them. However, the available literature on NGOs suffers from several weaknesses. For example, researchers do not substantially reflect the influence of international linkages on organizational behavior. The theory of sociological institutionalism, which is the theoretical framework of this thesis, assumes that through contacts and the influence of exposure to international structures, the institution changes and with it its behavior. The aim of this thesis is therefore to find an answer to the question of whether it is indeed the different degrees of institutionalization of organizations that manifest themselves externally in different behavior. The answer to the question is sought through an analysis of the behavior of two differently internationally institutionalized NGOs linked by their subject of interest - the environment. The first organization is the Greenpeace Czech Republic, the Czech branch of the international NGO, while the second NGO is Hnutí DUHA, which has its roots purely in the Czech Republic. The first part of the thesis introduces the theory of new institutionalism with a focus on its concrete form - sociological institutionalism, followed by a...
Tax, charges and other similar tools for the protection of the environment
Hlúbiková, Helena ; Boháč, Radim (advisor) ; Kohajda, Michael (referee)
1 Taxes, charges and other similar instruments for the environmental protection The reason why I chose this theme is that the environmental protection from the perspective of financial law is a very topical issue in all EU countries, including the Czech Republic. The purpose of my thesis is to analyse instruments that are utilized for environmental protection. The thesis deals with direct and indirect regulatory instruments and the increased attention is paid to the energy taxes. The thesis is composed of five basic chapters, each of them dealing with different aspects of the environmental protection from the perspective of financial law. Chapter One and Two is introductory and defines basic terminology used in the thesis such as the environment and environmental protection or environmental policy. Chapter Three deals with the basic structure of instruments for environmental protection, which are instruments of direct regulation (normative) and indirect regulatory instruments (economic). This chapter also describes the characteristics of these instruments and their advantages and disadvantages. Chapter Four concentrates on economic instruments - environmentally related charges and especially environmentally related taxes. This chapter deals with the term of environmental taxes, their characteristics and...
Environmental topics in nation branding: the case of Slovenia
Havlíčková, Marta ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on the approach of Slovenia to the promotion of the state abroad. It is a small country with two million inhabitants, suffering from poor visibility and being confused with Slovakia. Slovenia has decided to change this by creating a national brand. Positive perception of a country contributes to economic development of the state. It is also an ideal means by which small states can maximise their influence in the international arena. The thesis describes the gradual development of the national brand and its implementation. The thesis also describes the institutional background, the work being coordinated by the Government Office for Communication. Slovenia has succeeded in creating the brand of a green country with a quality of life for all. For a national brand to be successful, it must be based on real national priorities. In the case of Slovenia, ecology is also part of its domestic and foreign policy priorities. The monitored indicators show that Slovenia's environmental performance varies in different areas. In some areas Slovenia is a leader in the EU, in others, for example in transport, its performance is below average. The work concludes that the label is based on real foundations because some part of environmental policy is effective.
Environmental policy in the Czech Republic and Poland from the perspective of non-governmental organization Greenpeace
Turek, Jan ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kochnowski, Roman (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on the Czech and Polish environmental policy. The aim of the thesis is to reflect internal environmental policy from the point of view of the organization Greenpeace which is a non-governmental environmental organization. The thesis analyses how the Czech and Polish branches of the organization reflect the environmental issues of both national policies. The theses also analyses whether the branches consider the topics of environmental issues in the current policy to be sufficient and what activities they do to draw attention to possible shortcomings in environmental policy. In the opening chapters, the thesis is focused on the similarities and differences in the Czech and Polish environmental policy. There is also written whether the policies deal with global or local issues, or whether they reflect the present-day environmental topics. The thesis also mentions the Czech and Polish environmental movement, its establishment and development in the 80s and 90s in the 20th century. The thesis is mainly focused on the current period (since the year 2017) - it's the period of the government of Andrej Babiš and Mateusz Morawiecki. This is the period when the climate crisis is considered as the biggest topic of world environmentalism.
