Ways, Possibilities and Problems of Using Synchronic Czech and Slovak Anoikonymical Material in Historical Dialectology
Harvalík, Milan ; Valentová, I.
The research of anoikonyms (minor place names, in other terminologies also feature names, field names or microtoponyms) has recently attracted the attention of toponomasticians not only in Slavonic countries, but also worldwide. The aim of this paper is to show the possibilities and ways of using the synchronic anoikonymical material collected for Czech and Slovak minor place names dictionaries in historical dialectology. Given the specific functions of proper names, it is obvious that we cannot take the same approach to anoikonyms as to common nouns. For this reason, special attention is paid to differences in the methods of their dialectological and onomastic analyses. The considerations presented here are based on the study of Czech and Slovak proper names nevertheless, the authors hope that the results formulated in this paper can be applied in general.
