The bachelor's thesis "Scottish National Party and its position after 1999" discusses the development and status of the Scottish National Party since its foundation in 1934 with emphasis on period after the emergence of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. The thesis is focused on the position of the party in political systems of the United Kingdom and Scotland and its efforts to enforce the primary goal of Scottish independence. The basic measures of party's success are election results and participation in decision-making. The author examines the factors influencing the overal image of the party such as ideology, internal situation, party leader, etc. Study of the party documents, such as election manifestos and government programs, is important part of the paper. The aim of this paper is to analyse the development of the Scottish National Party and to try to outline its future. The method used in this case study is process tracing. The paper is based particularly on Scottish Parliament election results, on the changes of the leader of the SNP, on the election campaign and manifesto of the SNP and its perception in the Scottish media. The author makes the conclusion that the party leader and the election manifesto are the main causes of the SNP election success.
The position of England in the context of the regional organization of Great Britain

The diploma thesis "The position of England in the context of the regional organization of Great Britain"deals with the issue of establishing a regional level of governance in the eight regions of England in the period between 1997 and 2004. This policy was promoted by the New Labour government as an answer to demands for democratisation and responsibility of governance in the regions as well as an answer to demands for improvements in economic performance of the regions. The aim of the thesis is to respond to the question of why the public in the regions does not support plans for strengthening of the regional level of governance and for establishing elected regional assemblies in the regions and why this policy was rejected in the referendum held in 2004 in the region North East. The research was carried out using the theory of new regionalism and the concept of construction of regions. Specific criteria are set and are used as a basis for analysis of the situation in the English regions in the selected time period. The first criterion is the territorial framework of the English regions, the second criterion is the institutional framework and the last criterion is the regional identity. Comparison of referendums on devolution in Wales

The bachelor thesis "Comparison of Referendums on Devolution in Wales" deals with the process of political devolution in Great Britain, or rather in Wales with emphasis on two referendums on this question, which took place in 1979 and 1997. The main topic of this work is an establishing of a relationship between central British and regional Welsh government that culminated in the origin of National Assembly for Wales in 1998. In the first referendum Welsh people expressed a negative attitude to devolution and in the second one they changed their mind about it and voted for devolution. The main goal of this work is to explain basic facts that caused the difference between the results of referendums. This comparative work determines criteria and through the analysis of them it gains characteristics of both referendums in which people voted on founding of the National Assembly for Wales. In its major part, the work deals with the comparison of referendums on the basis of their descriptions. The attention is put also on the development of political situation in Wales, which preceded declaration of the first referendum. Types of governments in Wales and Scotland (1999-2016)

This bachelor's thesis deals with the types of governments in the regional areas of Scotland and Wales. The present work focuses on the period from 1999 until the present day. The period begins in the year of the first Scottish and Welsh elections for their new institutions. The thesis should primarily analyse the governments that have been elected in these regions. The main theoretical core is the Theory of coalitions, which is explained and then used for defining the types of the governments. The work will also focus on the electoral system which is used for the Scottish and Welsh elections and simultaneously deals with the impact of the electoral system on the party system. A very important aspect for analysing the types of governments, are the parties themselves and their ability or incapability of cooperation with other parties. These case studies should show which types of governments are the most common and find an explanation of this outcome. In the final part of the thesis, previous analyses of the types of governments are compared to determine similar patterns or contrarily to ascertain the most significant differences.
Labour Party and its internat structure after devolution: the case Welsh Labour

The thesis is focused on the analysis of national party organizational adaptation to political decentralization, specifically of internal change in the Labour Party. The main aim of this case study is to find the degree to which the devolution influence Labour party internal organization and strengthen the role of Welsh Labour. The thesis assumes a certain shift in the position of the Welsh Labour Party within the party structures, this change is placed in context of decentralization reform in Great Britain. Based on the defined factors, which are set out in the introduction, the thesis examines the changes in the party internal structure and the transfer of powers towards its regional branch - the Welsh Labour. The aim of the thesis is not only to find whether the decentralization reform had an impact on the internal party organization, but also to present other possible factors of this change and outline further possible research.

The bachelor thesis "British government relations with territorial departments in Scotland and Wales after 1998" focus its aim on describing powers of government territorial offices Scotland Office and Wales Office, examine its relations with British government and the distinctions of their powers during devolution years. The main topic of this work is to analyse and describe the motives that lead to set those powers and resolve their changes. The case study is working with assertion that main cause to these changes is the political factor rising out of the centre therefore the work submits an analysis of government devolution acts and how these acts changed institutional framework and intergovernmental relations. In its major part, the work is focused on first and second devolution stage and deals with British government intentions in territorial departments. The thesis deals with the Scottish National Party and Plaid Cymru - the Party of Wales and their transformation in the context of the establishment of devolutionary institutions: the Scottish Parliament and the National Assembly of Wales. At first, it presents the main terms with which the work will operate, and the concept of regional parties, focusing on their classification based on the origin and stance on the territorial-political arrangement. Further, the thesis will deal with the development of tendencies leading to the establishment of devolution in both regions. The background conditions and the main purpose leading to the establishment of both parties differed significantly and played an important role throughout their whole existence. The Scottish National Party has demanded Scotland's independence since its establishment, while Plaid Cymru was formed mainly to protect Welsh culture and language. The emergence of devolution in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has provided regional parties with a new opportunity to strengthen their position in their regional political systems.
