Czech development cooperation: Adherence to the principles of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness
Ocknecht, Martin ; Horký-Hlucháň , Ondřej (advisor) ; Parízek, Michal (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the range the Czech Republic fulfills the international commitments stipulated by the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. And, if it needed, to find factors which influence fulfilling of the declaration commitments. This is done by analysis of the documents and interviews. The analysis of the data related to the supplied development aid is the core of the thesis. The aid depends on these key principles: ownership, alignment, harmonization, managing for results and mutual accountability. Two projects of the Czech Development Agency between years 2013 and 2015 in Cambodia and the State of Palestine are analyzed in two case studies. The operationalization of the terms and following own methodical framework application to the output data led to a result, whether the international commitments are (not) complied with. The performed research implies that commitments are fulfilled rather insufficiently in the Cambodia case, whereas the commitments in State of Palestine case were fulfilled completely. A new innovative approach was crucial. The projects are directed by Palestinian partner. In Cambodia, the critical principle is the mutual accountability because of the lack of the capacities (mostly in funding) and unsatisfactory management. There is a...

Czech Development Cooperation Policy and the Private Sector: Key Discourses between 1995 and Today
Křížková, Eva ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
The private sector is an integral part of the global mainstream political development discourse. It appears in different contexts that define its roles in the field of development cooperation policy and therefore imply diverse political actions. The thesis analyses the Czech development discourse in connection with the private sector from 1995 until today. Based on the method of discourse analysis of the outputs of relevant development stakeholders the research identifies four different types of development discourse in relation to the private sector: "The private sector - a taboo", "We pay, we want Czech enterprises in development cooperation", "The private sector, the careless destructor", "The private sector, the darling of the development cooperation policy stakeholders." Out of the discourses identified, every type is typical for a specific time period as well as a specific set of stakeholders employing the discourse. Generally, until the Czech accession to the EU, the private sector does not seem to be an important element of the governmental development discourse since the theme is practically absent. This changes with the global economic crisis and even more notably after 2015 when generally all of the relevant development actors, including the traditionally very critical NGO sector,...

SOPKOVÁ, Daniela
This thesis focuses on leisure activities for children in Zambia from the students-interns of the faculty who have already completed an internship in Zambia. Two main goals were set. The first was to map existing leisure activities for children in Zambia, which have been and which are currently implemented there by student-interns of the faculty. The second objective was to map the cooperation, coordination and cooperation among students-interns of the faculty who travel to Zambia and those who were already there. The text is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part focuses on the importance of leisure activities for children in Zambia. The largest part is devoted to the high number of endangered and vulnerable children in Zambia and various prevention programs supported by the Czech Development Agency. To put together and create the empirical part of the thesis- I used qualitative research strategy, using methods of questioning, observation techniques, through semi-structured interviews with students-interns of the faculty and secondary data analysis. Data were analyzed by creating clusters. The sample consisted of nineteen interns, who provided information on the preparation and implementation of an internship leisure activities for children in Zambia. The research results show that interns who are about to go to Zambia mutually cooperate with previous interns. The research found that the most common risk factors endangering children and young people in Zambia are financial problems, poverty, orphanhood, low availability of leisure activities for children as well as education, social and health system in Zambia. Prevention of risky behavior is very important during realization of leisure activities by all interns in Zambia and by all interns who consider the existence of a leisure center as an important part of prevention. All interviewed interns said they had enough opportunities for creating a new leisure activities or to maintain existing activities and their restoration. According to the interns is the realization of leisure activities successful and well organized. It is necessary to emphasize cooperation with local residents, to which children and young people have respect and honor.
