Czolko, Daniel ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the approach to the dispute over Cieszyn Silesia in Czech and Polish regional periodical press: Obrana Slezska, Ostravský kraj, Gwiazdka Cieszyńska and Głos Ludu Śląskiego. It describes reporting in the mentioned newspapers, summarizes the differences in approach to the dispute, used argumentation and description of opposing side of the dispute. The theoretical part of the thesis outlines the historical context and the complicated situation in the region after the First World War, the collapse of the Austrian-Hungarian empire and the establishment of independent states - Czechoslovakia and Poland. The description of historical events serves as a foundation for understanding the complexity of the issue as well as the feelings of both - Czech and Polish sides, which are reflected in newspapers texts. The aim of the thesis is to present through a qualitative narrative analysis, what kind of information reached the Czech and Polish population in the region. The purpose of the thesis is based on the hypothesis that during the observed period the arguments of the two sides of the dispute diverged significantly, which reflects the sharpening of the relations between the population. And that is going to be confirmed.
United cities - different memory: places of memory and their perception in the divided cities of Český Těšín and Cieszyn
Byrtus, Fabian ; Bauer, Paul (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
The divided cities of Český Těšín and Cieszyn are a place where different nations, ethnicities and religions mingled for centuries. Naturally, different historical narratives also collide here. This thesis focuses on qualitative research of the change in the perception of places of memory, in which the collective memory of individual groups of residents of Český Těšín and Cieszyn crystallizes. The thesis engages with the main hypothesis that the perception of these places changes over time, and one of the crucial impulses to this change was the involvement of the Czech Republic and Poland in the European integration process. The semi-structured interviews with representatives of cultural, social and political life in both cities serve as primary sources. Based on the interviews, the Olza/Olše border river, the Slezanka and the Czechoslovak Border Demarcation monuments commemorating the division of the two cities in 1920, the Jewish necropolises and the German graves in the communal cemeteries, and the Cieszyn tram came to the fore. The influence of the European integration process on the transformation of the perception of the places of memory is most evident in the case of the river Olza/Olše and the Cieszyn tram. Both places of memory became the showcase of building cross-border cooperation...

Berousková, Karolína ; Doubek, Vratislav (advisor) ; Goněc, Vladimír (referee)
Czechoslovakia-Poland relations were immediately after their establishment influenced by the territorial dispute concerning the region of Teschen Silesia. The dispute lasted two years. The study is based on the analysis of historical sources and scientific literature. It follows the formation of conflict lines and subsequent escalation of the conflict. Thesis is divided into two parts. First part represents internal dimension of the conflict, it focuses on the historical connection of Teschen Silesia and describes it as a distinctive territorial unit with special emphasis on selfperception of its inhabitants. It clarifies the mental shift from the identity which is perceived on the basis of social status to the identity based on the affiliation to the nation, which is later embodied by the establishment of Czechoslovakia and Poland. Second part of the Thesis turns its attention to the external, international dimension of the conflict, i.e. mutual Czechoslovak-Polish negotiations, genesis of their attitudes and the role of the Entente powers and decisive bodies of the Paris Peace...
