Vliv deforestace krajiny na využívání původních druhů rostlin v okrese Sen Monorom, Kambodža
Chalupová, Karolína
The bachelor thesis focuses on the extent of landscape deforestation in Cambodia and its impact on the use of native plant species in the Sen Monorom district. To solve this problem a literature search and field research were used. Field research shows monitoring of the occurence and ways of using the native species of the district. Last but not least, a questionnaire survey was used, which focuses mainly on the objective and subjective perception of deforestation. The results of the work show that the deforestation in Cambodia is still increasing. Many species have succumbed to the onslaught of illegal logging and excessive demand. If there is no change in the system and forestry, it’s possible that Cambodia will lose another part of its biodiversity.
Demographic development in Cambodia since the second half of the 20th century
Dušek, Adam ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
Demographic development in Cambodia since the second half of the 20th century Abstract This thesis deals with the population development in Cambodia since the second half of the 20th century. The objective of the thesis is to characterize population development in Cambodia during 1950-2020, focusing on the period of the 1970s. A sub-objective is to put demographic development into a historical context. The topic was analyzed through a study of relevant literature and subsequent demographic analysis based on data from the World Population Prospects database, other UN institutions and publications of notable scholars. It has been confirmed that the events that took place in the country during the Khmer Rouge rule from 1975 to 1979 had a significant impact on the population development and direction of the country. Extreme violence and harsh living conditions claimed at least 1.5 million victims. The age-sex structure was fundamentally distorted by the high excess mortality of young men. A period of increased fertility followed, but soon declined. Cambodia's population rose from 4.4 million to 16.7 million during the period under review. However, population growth has been slowing down due to declining fertility and high emigration. Keywords Cambodia, demographic development, Khmer Rouge, excess mortality
Development of bilateral relations: Cambodia and the Czech Republic
Puklová, Anna ; Kofroň, Jan (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to describe the development of bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Czech Republic and factors which have an influence on this development. Official cooperation between these two states started in 1956. The development of Czech-Cambodian relationship was heavily influenced by two historical turns - the rule of Khmer Rouge in the 1970s in Cambodia and the fall of Communism in Czechoslovakia in 1989. This thesis deals with development of concrete relationship on descriptive level. The descriptive level is followed by the comparison of the development after two historical turns mentioned previously. The thesis compares events after which the renewal or transformation were necessary, factors which influenced these periods, how the relation was renewed and concrete examples of cooperation. This comparison tells us that the development after the two turns went in almost the same direction, historical turns mainly left marks in the first few years after the event. It is not possible to compare the first steps in cooperation after the role of Khmer Rouge and after the fall of Communism.

Working Conditions in the Developing Countries: The Effect of the International Organizations
Mrázová, Michaela ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This thesis is focused on the labor conditions of garment industry in developing countries. The text is structured as a comparative case study that is concerned with the situation in Cambodia and Bangladesh. Case studies of these countries describe domestic garment industry, its general and specific problems and a rate of compliance with labor standards. The goal of the thesis is to determine whether international organizations have an influence on the improvement of labor conditions in developing countries and compare it with other relevant actors. In this particular case the attention is focused on the International Labor Organization which manages its supportive programs in both countries but in a different manner. A pilot ILO program focused on the private sector has started in Cambodia thirteen years ago while in Bangladesh ILO had managed to run traditional program focused on the public sector until the Rana Plaza tragedy. Moreover, in the case of Bangladesh is a characterization of change after the tragedy. The thesis examines innovative ILO program that focuses on the monitoring of the garment factories, its functioning and outcomes. It also examines the role of ILO and its orientation by a theory of institutional change: whether it is possible to restore efficacy of one of the oldest...
Selected problems of primary education in Cambodia
Huňková, Zuzana ; Novotný, Josef (advisor) ; Kolomazníková, Jana (referee)
The thesis examines the Cambodian basic primary education, particularly concerning the problems of financial accessibility and teacher's quality. After describing the historical context, the author analyses available evidence on the current situation of the Cambodian primary education as well as measures undertaken for its improvement. The empirical part examines twelve semi-structured interviews with informants with a diverse background (NGO workers experienced in the area, elementary and lower secondary teachers, and recent students). The research confirmed the importance of the problem of teachers' quality also related to their low education. Problem of informal payments restricting access to education for some pupils was not completely confirmed. Although these problems have remained - both according to informants and literature - the critical challenges of Cambodian education, the findings suggest that recent years have witnessed notable improvements in both these areas. Key words: basic education, teachers, Cambodia, accessibility, quality
Cambodia after 1979 and the application of the Reagan Doctrine
Haniková, Zuzana ; Hornát, Jan (advisor) ; Bečka, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with the developments in Cambodia after 1979 and the Reagan Doctrine which was applied to Cambodia in the 1980s. The Vietnamese invasion ended the cruel government of the Khmer Rouge and also effected the development of the country for more than a decade. Cambodia became an ally of the Soviet Union and the expansionism of the Soviets was unacceptable for the United States. According to the Reagan Doctrine, US decided to support anticommunist movements in third world countries. The thesis analyzes the American support to the anticommunist groups in Cambodia and searches for the reasons of American decisions to support these groups and Washington's impact on the peace treaty and the withdrawal of Vietnamese forces. Based on the analysis of American policy, international negotiations and internal development in Cambodia, the thesis concludes that the main reason for US involvement was the fear of the spread of Soviet influence around the world, but the role of the US was limited and passive. It was caused by almost no interest in the issue of Cambodia and the American society also had a painful experience with the war in Vietnam. There were also reports that the international aid and assistance was used by the Khmer Rouge. The US became more active when new president came to office....
The boundaries of ecotourism and their crossing on the community in Chambok
Kořánová, Anna ; Kuřík, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Tenzin, Eva (referee)
My thesis focuses on the problems of ecotourism, or more precisely its borders from an anthropological perspective, using example of a typical Cambodian community named Chambok. Based on five months of research, together with ethnographic methods of research I found out that boundaries of ecotourism are complex, multi-layered, problematic and negotiated and also that there are so called "grey zones" encompassing them. It is the conceptualization of these zones and boundaries, which is my contribution to current anthropological debate about ecotourism, which has been largely left out until now.
