Augustus - Napoleon - Mussolini - Hitler
Porsch, Michal ; Kepartová, Jana (advisor) ; Foltýn, Dušan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to acquaint the reader with historical parallels between the reigns of princeps Augustus, Napoleon Bonaparte, Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler. The thesis is also focused on the propaganda and self-presentation of these politicians and on the inspiration of the Roman state in modern history. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the lives of all the mentioned personalities, their rise to power and to the main political acts and procedures they used during their reigns. The cultural development of states under the reigns of these politicians is also mentioned here. An important element that is present throughout the work is Augustus's reference to later political and cultural history, on which princeps' reign had a significant influence. Subsequently, based on the studied sources and literature, the thesis includes the comparation of individual reigns, looks for similarities and differences, evaluates whether it is a conscious use of August's political acts. The main objective of this thesis is to present whether August's legacy was used intentionally in later history and his political practices become inspiration for future generations, or whether it is more of a coincidence. This work also traces the ways in which Augustus' personality and rule were reflected...

The other part of the thesis deals with the life and the reign of Augustus who influenced the Roman Empire for several decades. Greek and Roman reformers
Grigoryan, Hračja ; Skřejpek, Michal (advisor) ; Bělovský, Petr (referee)
The goal of this thesis on roman and greek reformers was to create a methodical summary of the most important constitutional reforms in ancient Rome and Greece. It is mostly focussed on the history of ancient Rome or Roman reformers, respectively. I call these reforms constitutional for their undoubted life-changing impact on the society as a whole - some of the reforms changed the ancient societies for the upcoming decades and even centuries, some changed them, as I believe, forever. For example a struggle between Lucius Cornelius Sulla and Gaius Marius had a far- reaching impact on Rome as too much of "unbreakable" rules were broken - which, of course, led to another and another heavy and unprecedented interventions which ultimately led to the fall of the republic and the beginning of the new, Imperial, era. Main sources of this thesis are the texts of ancient authors, such as Plutarch Suetonius and Appian, as it was one of my goals to use primary literature as much as possible.
Roman History in the Time of Principate in Czech Secondary Schools
Nováková, Miroslava ; Kepartová, Jana (advisor) ; Pinkas, Jaroslav (referee)
The main aim of this dissertation is to compare current history textbooks by using modern educative methods for learning history. Furthermore, it examines the feasibility of these methods for elementary school students and the first year of secondary school. The comparison was conducted based on the content and didactics of the textbooks and to tackle the development of the historical and critical thinking of the students. Secondary, it highlights the topics that are given the most space in the textbooks. Due to the complexity of the subject, the paper also contains the analysis of the textbooks used until 1989. The paper also contains the analysis of the Roman emperors from the principate, who finds their reflection on the textbooks. Analysis is based on the textbooks and the findings of the specialised literature. The dissertation primarily uses the methods of analysis of primary and secondary historical sources such as scholarly books and articles. I have also compared the textbooks, conducted a questionnaire. Lastly, I've created a thematic plan following the roman principate. By using these methods, I have concluded that the majority of the current textbooks aim to stimulate the development of the students. They are also crucial for the understanding of the past and the present world.
Roman law reflected in non-legal antic relics
Saturka, Milan ; Skřejpek, Michal (advisor) ; Falada, David (referee)
Reform of state administration during the reign of Augustus Roman law reflected in non-legal antic relics Abstract The period of the late republic and the early principate was a time of many political, social and legal changes in the history of the ancient Roman state. In a relatively short period of time, the old state institutes collapsed and were fundamentally reformed or replaced with new ones. This thesis mainly focuses on the issue of reforms in selected areas of public law, namely the areas of state administration, tax administration and financial administration. In the field of state administration, the attention is paid to the reform of the provincial order, which had to be adapted to the new constitutional order of the state in which the princeps dominated, and the beginnings of the centralized offices of the Roman Empire, which were founded by Augustus, and which, under the rule of his successors, were further formalized and expanded into highly specialized bureaucratic bodies. In the field of tax administration, attention is paid both to the difficulties of the tax system of the late republic and its comparison with the tax system of Augustus' principate, while attention is paid both to tax collection and individual newly introduced taxes in their relation to new needs of the reformed financial...
