Freighter Lidice Affair and its Impact on Czechoslovak-French Relations

The bachelor thesis "Freighter Lidice Affair and its Impact on Czechoslovak-French Relations" examines both the event of the affair itself and its influence on Czechoslovak French relations. The thesis is mainly devoted to the freighter Lidice affair itself, the interception of a Czechoslovak cargo ship carrying arms for the Algerian rebels. The affair is set in the context of Czechoslovak support for the FLN. The next part of the thesis deals with relations particularly in the financial field between years 1960 and 1964 and attempts to assess their development during these years. The work is also based on the period documents from the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and period newspaper articles.

Harkis - traitors or victims of the Algerian war? Reflection of the auxiliary units in the French army in Algeria after 1962

This bachelor's thesis aims to describe the formation and evolution of auxiliary units in the French army, called harkas during the Algerian war. Moreover, it analyses the reflexion of members of the auxiliary units in Algeria after 1962, the year of independence in Algeria, until the present. The first chapter presents the origins of the auxiliary units and their development in the context of the Algerian war. The text underlines motivation of the Algerians for entering into the auxiliary units and practices used by the French army to perceive as many indigenous natives as possible to engage in the army. The chapter also describes the fates of members of auxiliary units at the end of the war and after the ceasefire. In the second part of the paper, the thesis describes the history of independent Algeria with a focus on the connection between the new regime and the army. Additionally, it also incorporates the fusion of the governing elite with the National Liberation Front which endures until present day. This chapter reflecting the development of the newborn Algerian Republic also examines the Algerian conception of history and its impact on image of former members of the auxiliary units in Algerian society. The fate of the Harkis in France after the Algerian War

This bachelor's thesis deals with the formation and development of the auxiliary units in the French army during the Algerian war and analyzes the approach of French political leadership towards memebers of the auxiliary units, the Harkis, as well as the development, which the community of Harkis have undergone since the end of the conflict and the arrival in France until 2005. The first chapter presents period of the Algerian war, which leads to the formation of auxiliary troops comprising indigenous Algerian population, a categorization of the different sections and their deployment by the French army. The first chapter focuses on the motivation of France to create these auxiliary units, as well as on the motivation of Algerians to enter them. The second chapter is dedicated to the analysis of situation, which occurred just after the war when repatriation of the Harkis and their families took place and when the conduct of integration policy of France towards this social group was started. Furthermore, this chapter deals with transformation of social structure that occurs within the community of Harkis in the postwar period. Algerian war

This thesis deals with the circumstances leading to the decolonization of Algeria. The aim of the thesis is to analyze French-Algerian relations during the Algerian war, especially to determine the specific features of Algeria and its importance for France. Another aim is the analysis of two opposite groups: the French nationalist organization Secret Army Organization whose objective was maintenance of French Algeria, and National Liberation Front which, in contrary, desired to gain the Algerian independence. The work also deals with the events on the French political scene whose changes considerably influenced following the development of the Algerian question.
