Spiritual progress of man in relation to God in the exegesis of Song of Songs by Origen and Life of Moses by Gregory of Nyssa

In this thesis, I ask how Origen and Gregory of Nyssa used the Scriptures in the exposition of their theology of spiritual progress. The aim of this thesis is to compare their teaching and exegetical approach to spiritual progress and consider their benefit for a modern reader. In the introductory chapter, I introduce the historical, intellectual, and spiritual context of authors and texts. In the second and third chapter, I analyze texts of the selected works focusing on the definitions of spiritual progress and its relation to sin and forgiveness, afterlife and communion of God and man. I also considered how was the teaching of both authors influenced by their historical context and pointed out problematic parts of their teaching. In the concluding chapter, I summarize similarities and differences ín Origen's and Gregory's approach to the topic of spiritual progress on the basis of the text analysis and secondary sources. I ask how can Christians of today in their spiritual progress and ecumenical discussions benefit from Origen's and Gregory's search for Christian perfection.

Augustine's work De sermone domini in monte and the patristic exegesis Sermon on the mount and the plain

This rigorous work is the thesis of a future dissertation work, which deals with the work De sermone domini in monte of St. Augustine and other surviving patristic texts dealing with the Sermon on the Mount or the Sermon on the Plain or parts thereof. It seeks to compare different perspectives on these key sections of gospels. Since Augustine's work is the only one devoted entirely to the Sermon on the Mount, it tries to show its uniqueness and its inclusion in Augustine's work. This rigorous work summarizes the goals, methods and specifications that will lead to the dissertation. It also outlines the syllabus of future dissertation work and some results and elaboration that has already taken place, and presents secondary literature and sources on the topic. The Pneumatology of Didymus the Blind and its Contexts

1 Abstract The thesis tries to evaluate the contribution of Didymus of Alexandria in the field of pneumatology and situate it in the context of theology of his contemporaries and the Alexandrian tradition. Pneumatology is one of the main themes of Didymus, but the only existing treatise, which is directly dedicated to this theme and we are sure of his authorship, is On the Holy Spirit, This treatise, possibly the historicaly first of its kind, thus represents the the focus of this thesis. It has been preserved only in Latin translation of Jerome which renders the Greek text and Didymus' original teachings complicated to fully recover. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to Didymus life and work. It presents his formation, studies, methods of teaching in the framework of Alexandrian catechetist school, theological and exegetical activities, his ascetic attitude to life, and his condemnation after his death in the framework of anti-origenist struggle. Then the Didymus writings are then devided into dogmatic and exegetical works, the latter of which was enriched by the finds of codexes in Egyptian Tura in 1941. Conception of satan in patristic

This work deals with substance of satan as it is reflected in patristic. Due to fact, that the meaning of word satan is not clearly defined and there is more words with similar meaning, is in first chapter etymological analysis of word satan. In second chapter there is analysis of question, who can be called church father and a brief information about life of selected writers. In third chapter is situated analysis of satan in book of Augustinus Aurelius De civitate dei. Fourth chapter deals with substance of satan in book of Origenes De principiís as it is reflected by Endre von Ivánka in Plato christianus. Fifth chapter is focused on substance of satan in book About games by Tertullianus.
