Řeháková, Veronika ; Pospíšil, Ctirad Václav (advisor) ; Šmíd, Marek (referee) ; Weis, Martin (referee)
in English The following work is about Matěj Procházka (1811-1889), an important figure of national and ecclesiastical life in Moravia in 19th century and a member of the circle around Professor František Sušil, the-so-called Sušilova družina. The detailed biography presented here is the result of historical research into resource materials from several different archives in Moravia. This work examines three main periods of Procházka's life. He spent his childhood and student years, firstly, in his native town of Brtnice, then in Jihlava and Brno. After ordination, he served as a priest for sixteen years in different parishes of Brno diocese. Then he lived in Brno for nearly forty years while working as a secondary grammar school teacher and catechist and being involved in different activities, such as the Czech national revival, Catholic associations, education, and especially, publishing. This work maps the importance of the personage of Matěj Procházka as seen by his contemporaries and by following generations up to the present. It also brings out the overall characteristics of this priest. A part of this study is a new and enlarged bibliography of Procházka's works, as writer, journalist, translator, reviewer, poet, and author of scientific and scholarly treatises. In his works, he covered a...
VIRTUES IN BAROQUE HAGIOGRAPHY AS CREATION OF MODERN SOCIETY IN THE CZECH LANDS
Procházková, Dana ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (advisor) ; Boček, Pavel (referee) ; Weis, Martin (referee)
Baroque piety has been the centre of research of some historians, who tried to describe the main and unique features of this time. They studied some sources to find out that this time`s piety was emotional, Christocentric and using some violent means. The present study tries to find typical virtues of holy people in the Baroque era and so describe the piety and name the character qualities which Jesuit scholars wanted to input and influence so that Czech people follow them. I used structural analysis to separate stories of the lives of saints and find the desired virtues. I found out that most important virtues were taken from the Gospel of Matthew, i.e. mercy, fasting and prayer. The sources tended to describe quite normal people so that there appeared to be some tendency to democratize sanctity. These findings help us to understand features of Baroque piety as well as its influence into the modern times.

ThDr. Marketa Langer Praha, 2018 THE THEOLOGICAL LEGACY OF CZECH MODERNISM IN THE LIFE AND WORK OF FRANTIŠEK BÍLEK ABSTRACT This thesis looks at the life and work of the artist Frantisek B lek in relation to the theological legacy of Czech Catholic modernism at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth century over three chapters. Its objective is to answer three questions: Was the artist the mystic he was perceived to be at the time? Can he be termed a modernist? What were his reasons for joining the Czechoslovak Church when it was founded in 1920? The study uses the method of hypotheses which are stated in advance in the questions posed, and then subsequently tested. Another method used is an analysis and comparison of the approach and attitudes of Czech society to the artist during his life. The introductory chapter describes the study's key indicators with a brief description of the issues, and also the form and structure used. Part A looks at the environment during the emergence of modern Europe; in particular the conditions giving rise to the struggle for modernism, the circumstances of the First Vatican Council, the Czech Catholic reform movement and the European modernism movement in relation to the central subject of this thesis, artist Frantisek B lek. Forms of ecclesiology in the Czech Reformation
Rokyta, Jan ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (advisor) ; Weis, Martin (referee) ; Čornej, Petr (referee)
Dissertation thesis is devoted to the concepts of ecclesiology in Hussite movement. Particularly the perception of early church in individual Hussite movements and in significant Hussite thinkers is taken into account. An original standpoint is that Hussite revolution existed as a product of thinking of theological origin. It is necessary to deal also with the perception of man, power and its legitimacy, history and in Christian thinking also the approaches to the interpretation of the Scripture. Main and inspirational personages of Czech history of 14th and 15th century occur in the text: Matthew of Janow, John Hus, Jakoubek of Mies, Nicolaus Pilgramensis. Furthermore also ideas of radical Taborites are analyzed. One of the decisive viewpoints is the relationship to the Scripture and the way of its interpretation. It makes an important criterion for understanding church, world, social relations and the soul of man as Czech reformation emphasized them. Next is then the notion of early church as individual schools or Hussite personages perceived it. I have attempted to approach Czech reformation thinking about church with its individual specifics but also in their common features. Key words Ecclesiology, early church, Matthew of Janow, John Hus, Jakoubek of Mies, Nicolaus Pilgramensis

Nosek, Michael ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Oliverius, Jaroslav (referee) ; Weis, Martin (referee)
This thesis discusses the basic principles of the Kabbalistic system of Rabbi Yitzhak Luria from the perspective of two important Kabbalists of the 20th century, Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag and his son Rabbi Baruch Ashlag, who tried to popularize the Lurianic Kabbalah. It is divided into three main parts: The first part deals with the basic points that are important for a deeper understanding of the teachings of Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag. Describes Kabbalah as learning which deals with the relationship of the Creator to man and enables the unification of man with the Creator. Also shows the history of humanity from the perspective of Kabbalah. Defines the Kabbalah as a science about the sequence of creation and describes perceptions of reality in terms of Kabbalah. The second part consists of translation of selected sections of "Introduction to Kabbalah" (Heb. Pticha lechochmat hakabbalah) by Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag, which is one of the three Ashlag's introductions to the Book of Zohar. Introduction to Kabbalah describes in abbreviated form the whole Kabbalistic System and helps to understand the complicated text of the Zohar. Following is the interpretation of certain sections of "Introduction to Kabbalah" by Rav Michael Laitman, disciple of Rabbi Baruch Ashlag. The third final part deals with the method of studying...

Italian and Sicilian Piyyut in contemporary Contex and its unique Contribution to futher poetical Output
Ondrejičková, Sylva ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Weis, Martin (referee) ; Šedinová, (referee)
Hermeneutic rules (so-called middot), which developed during the process of the rabbinic literature formation, partially under sopherims' or Greek influence, provided with one of the main viewpoints of hypotext choice in poetry, ruled a combination and an arrangement of elements in poetry. These principles, differenciated during the 2nd century A.D. into two systems - r. Yishma'el's and r. Eli'eser b. Josi ha-gelili's lists (for halakhic and aggadic interpretation) underwent a process of contraction in piyyut. From the recent point of view is the rabbinic hypotext identification possible at most half, since partially poets advanced on the basis of the midrashic texts available, different from extant textual versions. On the basis of original textual variants connected with the identification of the hypotext, this thesis arrived at a comparative work on the development and the understanding of implicite and explicite application of hermeneutic rules. The synagogal poetry assumed a didactical function and historical remembrance function following pre-classical period. As a result of poetic activity the originated the didactical text, which instructed, assisted at the preservation of lessons and topoi taught in yeshibot (Ashkenaz), scholarly circles (Rome, Apulia, Calabria) and later on in synagogues.
