It is necessary to assess this work with a respekt to her life, because the author has made this a major source of her inspiration.

Prose Works of Contemporary Japanese Women Writers

In this thesis I present prose works of contemporary Japanese women writers, who made their debut at the beginning of the 21st century. For a better understanding of the transition that a position of Japanese women and women authors has gone through - and how it prepared the way for their successors, I provide a summary of women's literature of the last two decades. To make the context clear, I also included an outline of significant changes within the realm of women's rights and the image of the role of women in society. Presentation of themes, that contemporary women writers focus on in their works and that reflect recent trends in modern Japanese society, follows. I also analyze aspects of language that are shared in works of young women writers. Lastly, considering the diverse range of critical reception of contemporary Japanese women writers, I would like to think about the future of Japanese modern literature. Akutagawa Ryūnosuke and His Considerations on Literature

The thesis is focused on a literary theoretical debate between two outstanding Japanese writers: Akutagawa Ryunosuke and Tanizaki Junichiro. As a reaction to this debate, Akutagawa wrote a literary critical essay Bungeitekina, amarini bungeitekina (Literary, All Too Literary) which contains Akutagawa's considerations on literature and which is analyzed in this thesis. I have also devoted my thesis to other literary theoretical essays written by Akutagawa. The goal of this thesis is to follow the influence of Akutagawa's literary considerations of his works and also to set his work into the wider context of Japanese literature. Hermeneutics is the methodology chosen for this work. To achieve the set-out goal, biographies on Akutagawa and other literary studies focused on Akutagawa were studied.

Individualism in Natsume Sōseki's Work

(in English) A thesis deals with individualism in Natsume Sōseki's work. The main topic is about how did the autor himself understand the individualism and based on which personal experiences did he create his conception of it. The second part of this thesis analyzes four literary works, Botchan, Sanshirō, Sorekara and Kokoro, on which I would like to show, which types of individuals Sóseki introduces to his readers and how the philosophy of individualism has affected his literary work.

Aesthetic Ideal sabi and Evanescence in Tanizaki Jun'ichiro's Work

This work describes the way in which Tanizaki Jun'ichiro expresses the aesthetic ideal sabi and the phenomenon of evanescence in his literary work, as well as the means used for this expression. After a short introduction of sabi and evanescence in the context of Japanese aesthetic tradition and a brief author's biography follows an analysis of selected Tanizaki's works. In my thesis I included the analysis of The Makioka Sisters, The Key, Diary of a Mad Old Man, In Praise of Shadows and three short stories (The Tattooer, The Reed Cutter, A Blind Man's Tale). Explicit Depictions in Contemporary Japanese Literature

In thesis "Explicit depictions of contemporary Japanese literature" I deal with contemporary prose literature describing problems of nowadays Japanese society. In the first part I define taboo and chose suitable novels for the need of this work. I focus on different types of characters - freeters, foreigners, social outsiders and victims. Next I take Murakami Ry's literature as an example of explicit depictions and show different ways of processing and various topics chosen by the author. Then I compare and contrast his work with selected prose of younger writer Kanehara Hitomi, who represents the literature of female authors in contemporary Japan. In conclusion I discuss the aesthetic function of literature of explicit depictions and its position in the field of art. By comparing and contrasting the various novels I reach my own characteristic of contemporary Japanese literature of explicit depictions.

Extended Particles: Their Meaning and Use

The objective of this thesis is to explore the morphological, syntactic and particularly semantic features of expressions of the Japanese grammar, called extended particles. This research work is, in practice, carried out both in general, when there is examined the whole grammatical category of the extended particles and specifically, when there is examined a small group of semantically similar extended particles. This group includes the extended particles wo moto ni shite, ni motozuite and ni sotte, meaning they express basis for a particular action. Based on an expert literature and analysis of authentic language materials these extended particles are examined primarily for differences in their meanings. In addition to research and specification of such differences for each individual extended particle there is also determined its primary and secondary use. In the conclusion, there is a summary of the specifics of the grammatical category of the extended particles that is thereto complemented by a contemplation of the relationship of the extended particles with the process of grammaticalization. First, I introduce author's life and work in general, together with historical context. In the next part, I list the methodological base which will be used to study selected short stories in the final part.

Short Stories of Kōno Taeko

(in English): The topic of this work is the characteristics of the short stories by Kono Taeko. At first I am presenting the methodology - psychoanalysis. Then, I'm describing her life for better understanding of the use of some typical features. Especially the war and the tuberculosis had influence on her work. Subsequently I present possible interpretation of her stories in term of Shintoism (effort to purify) and Buddhism (achievement of liberation). In interpersonal relations Kono Taeko deals mainly with man- woman relationships and her attitude can be considered feminist. In the most comprehensive chapter concerning masochism I am trying to prove with Freud's theory "The child is being beaten" that her work is masochistic. In the end I am generalizing my findings. This work contains Czech translations of examples of her work and contains 68 pages.

The Problems of Contemporary Society in Movies of Kurosawa Kiyoshi

This Bc. thesis focuses on contemporary cinema work of Kurosawa Kiyoshi (born 1955), in which we may discern themes concerning social issues, especially identity loss, alienation, inability of communication etc. It dwells in the interpretation of five films (Kyua, Ōinaru Gen'ei, Karisuma, Kairo, Tōkyō Sonata), which were made within 1997 and 2008, and attempts at clarification of these problems on the basis of the artworks. Apart from this, the work describes Kurosawa's work in relation to specific genres and evaluates his film career.
