French System of Innovation

This thesis is focused on French innovation system and its outputs. The aim is to analyze innovation performance of France, as well as its innovation policy and to find out the meaning of the innovation system for French economy and its competitiveness. The thesis also includes a case study of a shareholder and presents his perspective. The first chapter explains basic definitions and innovation related terms and reviews innovation associated theories. The second chapter examines the French innovation system evolution and its performance based on statistical data. Moreover, the French innovation business conditions and an innovation policy will be discussed. Following the analysis of the French innovation system, the last chapter evaluates whether the target of reinforcing innovation capacity is met. At the same time, the third section presents a player of the system, Raise company, and its position within this innovation system.
Innovation activities in Germany in the context of smart specialisation

Economic growth is slowing in many countries. It leads to a discussion on what sources of growth should countries focus. For this purpose, EU created the concept of smart specialization, which puts an emphasis on the most efficient use of public financial resources dedicated to research and development. The aim of this thesis is to find out on what industry Germany as a leader of EU innovation and its individual regions specializes and to identify potential areas for targeting resources to innovation, research and development. This will be determined by using the patent network. The secondary objective is to interconnect findings of patenting and analysis of innovation activities in various regions of Germany with international trade and to determine whether there is a correlation between innovation activity in a particular sector and export of the sector's products abroad.
Chosen natural resources: focuses of conflicts nad its economic consequences

The bachelor´s thesis aims to three chosen natural resources, which are petroleum, natural gas and water, and conflicts based on disputes over them. The aim of the thesis was to valorize nature of the conflicts, define their main focus and draw prospective economic consequences. Professional literature that deals with this kind of issue, was used in order to find out the true nature of the conflicts. The result is an evaluation, which has proven, that the most influental conflicts are rising over disputes over petroleum. Their economic and political impacts are very perceptible and economically measurable in the way of GDP, the total product and other economic indicators. In the thesis has been also proven that the conflicts on the basis of natural gas have similiar nature and extent as it is in the case of petroleum, even thought in a smaller amount. The least important conflicts in a meaning of economic impacts are those over water, by those has been proven, that they do not poses such an impact on economic and political situation as petroleum or natural gas nowdays.
Coal Minig in the World and the Impacts of the Decline in Particular Regions: Case Study of the Czech Republic and Germany

The aim of this thesis is to describe and analyze the impacts of the decline of coal mining on an example of two countries, namely the Czech Republic and Germany, and then to compare selected impacts and tools that have been used against the negative consequences. The work is divided into three parts, the first chapter describes the basic characteristics of coal, its use and exploitation. Second chapter deals with the current development of coal mining in the world along with its geographical presence. The final chapter analyzes and compares the Industrial Region of Ostrava and the Ruhr Valley and their current socio-economic challenges.
Global value chains in electronic industry - the case of the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis deals with the activities of global value chains in Czech Republic, with a focus on the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of the work explains the term value chain, its origin, function and its impact on selected economic indicators. Types of the processes in the firms and the possibility of relocation on the external subject or abroad is mentioned at the end of this section. The practical part aims to access the activity of the companies in global value chains. Based on the statistic dates, information from various databases and calculations, the paper offers an insight into the situation in selected sectors. Other parts are dedicated to analyzing the opportunities, current trends and overall development of this industry in Czech Republic. The output of the work provides a general look on the concept, how the firms are working in value chains and how are they affecting the electronic industry.
The impact of regional differentiation on the economy of Spain

There is a large economic inequality between the autonomous communities of Spain. The EU Regional Policy contributes to reduce regional disparities by providing funds to support the convergence of backward regions and the competitiveness of more developed areas. The aim of the thesis is to compare the evolution of socioeconomic indicators and evaluate their impact on the economy of Spain.
European automotive industry in the environment of increasing competition of China and India

This master thesis deals with increasing importance of Chinese and Indian car manufacturers. The aim is to present possible ways how European manufacturers would respond to new competition from China and India. The first chapter defines theoretical basis of the thesis. The second chapter analyses in detail current situation of the European automotive industry. The third chapter focuses on development of the industry in China and similarly, there is India analysed in the fourth chapter. The last chapter presents alternative approaches of European manufacturers and their prospective adaptation to the new competition.
The market for acoustic pianos in selected countries of South America on the example of PETROF company

The thesis examines a potential of markets in Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil for trade with acoustic pianos PETROF. The first chapter contains an overview of piano manufacturers and terms associated with that field. Characteristic of protectionism and its effects on trade are mentioned in the first chapter as well, since some countries apply trade barriers frequently. An economic analysis of these states together with a market analysis follows. The market potential investigation is based on field research in the countries of South America.
Crude Oil World Market - Current Trends and Prices Development

The crude oil phenomenon has always been a big issue and the current situation does not prove different. Crude oil as a commodity is indisputably considered as one of the most utilized energy source as well as production input which enters into economic processes in the vast majority of countries over the world. The aim of this masters thesis is to provide a detailed description and analysis of the crude oil world market. Furthermore it not only gives a characteristics of the commodity and its energy use it also defines the market and its participants crude oil pricing crude oil trading and it also provides an analysis of the world oil demand as well as supply.The purpose of this masters thesis is among other to thoroughly analyze the crude oil prices development and introduce the contemporary trends present on the market. In the latter part of this thesis there will be a crude oil prices time series modelled and probable future price direction outlined. Moreover the thesis will reflect on the current oil prices drop with its possible effect on world economy.
Current Trends in Unconventional Oil and Natural Gas Production with Focus on the U.S.

The thesis deals with the current trends and development of the unconventional oil and natural gas production. The main aim is to evaluate and analyze the global development of unconventional production and the influence of its growth in the last decade on the global economy and the given markets. In addition, not only the pros, but also the risks and limitations of unconventional production, are examined, e.g. economic and environmental issues. The final part focuses on the United States and the local shale boom. Based on the analysis of American unconventional production, the future of these sources is predicted. At the end of the thesis the effects of shale boom on the U.S. economy are explored as well, focusing mainly on the U.S. trade balance.
