Title: The Effect of Exercise Intervention on Physical Fitness and Quality of Life in Patients after Bariatric Surgery Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effect of a three-month physical intervention on the physical fitness and quality of life in patients after bariatric surgery. Compare the measured values from six-minute walk test (6MWT) and the questionnaire survey of quality of life between the group undergoing exercise program and the group of non-exercise patients. Methods: The diploma thesis was constructed as a quasi-experiment. A six-minute walk test, a visual analogue pain scale, a Borg scale and a standardized IWQOL-Lite questionnaire were used to asses physical fitness and quality of life. The study involved 28 patients (8 undergoing an exercise program, 20 non-excercisers). The groups were measured before the planned bariatric surgery and about 3-4 months after the surgery. For the analysis of final values, the Microsoft Excel and its add-in Realstatistics was used. Results: In patients undergoing the exercise program, the VAS on average decreased of 2,04 cm, 6MWT improved on average of 42,75 m, and quality of life of 34 points. In non-exercise patients there was an average decrease in VAS of 0,08 cm, an increase in 6MWT of 41,45 m and an increase in quality of life...

The influence of 3-month exercise program on postural stability in individuals after bariatric surgery
Mašková, Kateřina ; Daďová, Klára (advisor) ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (referee)
Title: The effect of movement program on static postural stability in individuals after bariatric surgery Aims: The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out whether a three-month regular exercise program including strenght and aerobic training has an impact on static postural stability in obese individuals who underwent bariatric surgery. Methodology: The special part was written on the basis of data obtained from posturographic measurement of obese patients who underwent bariatric surgery. The static postural stability was measured using pressure plate a MobileMat from Tekscan. Participants were measured before surgery and approximately 4 months after surgery. A total of 30 subjects aged 31-65 years with BMI values between 35-55 kg/m2 (obesity class II and III) who underwent initial and exit examination including stabilometry, were included in this diploma thesis. They were divided into 2 groups, first group participating in a three-month exercise program (n = 10; age 51 ± 7.3 years; BMI 41.7 ± 6.4 kg/m2 ) and a group undergoing bariatric surgery only (n = 20; age 48 ± 9, 4 years; BMI 43.6 ± 6.5 kg/m2 ). Comparison of nutrition of swimmers and triathletes in childhood
Schovalová, Tereza ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Větrovská, Renata (referee)
1 Abstract This diploma thesis is aimed to find out and compare nutrition indicators of young swimmers and triathletes. This thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and a practical one. Main nutrients of the children diet are described in the theoretical part. This first part contains the most important principles of the proper diet of the child during the given phases of a child development. Moreover, the correct timing of nutrition and drinking regime during the sport are mentioned in this second part. Based on those theoretical foundation is built the practical part. Results obtained from an analysis of the diet of 18 young swimmers and 18 triathletes at the similar age are interpreted in the practical part. A range of the respondents' age was between 10 and 15 years. The results show differences between those two groups in their diet. Both groups have problems to follow the nutritional recommendations. The differences were found in total energy, protein and iron intake. Both groups showed similar characteristics in vitamin C intake. Nutritional indicators of performance triathletes
Skuhrová, Tereza ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Matoulek, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis is aimed to find out nutrition indicators of performance triathletes and to compare them with non-sportsmen. The next aim is to point out the importace of proper balanced diet in endurance sport and to evaluate the usage of food supplements. This thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and a practical one. Main individual nutrients are described in the theoretical part in connection with energy metabolism and with emphasis on influence of nutrition in triathlon. The practical part summarizes results obtained from an analysis of a four-day nutritional intake of 8 performance triathletes and 8 non-sportsmen. A range of the respondents' age was between 26 and 37 years. The results point out that both groups have higher energy intake than recommended rate. Both groups' intakes of proteins and fats of animal origin are approximately twice higher than recommended as well as their results of micronutrient intake are not balanced. Furthermore, a brief questionnaire shows that 50 % of respondents were not satisfied how they can gain information about nutrition, at the same time 54 % use the internet as a main source of information and only 13 % read a scientific literature. Key words: triathlon, sports nutrition, endurance performance, food supplements, drinking regime
Influence of epigalokatechin gallate on weight reduction - a systematic review
Janda, Marek ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Majorová, Simona (referee)
Introduction: This thesis investigates the effect of isolated epigallocatechin-3-gallate on weight reduction in the adult population. An overview of Czech and foreign literature was provided on topics of obesity, the possibility of using green tea in its treatment and the positive effects of green tea on human health, followed by a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methodology: Using a three-phase systematic search strategy, published studies were searched in the Scopus database using predefined keywords. The aim of the search was to find randomized placebo-controlled studies lasting at least 8 weeks, which examined the effect of isolated EGCG in the absence of other active substances on the change of body parameters. The extracted data from the primary studies were then evaluated using meta-analysis and forest plot. As a result, a standardized mean difference with a 95 % confidence interval was calculated using a random effect model. Results: Six1 studies met the inclusion criteria, one2 of which was excluded due to insufficient evaluation in the critical appraisal of methodological quality. The remaining 5 studies provided a total sample of 325 participants who were diagnosed with a change in BMI induced by EGCG consumption. The result was a standardized average difference of -0.01, 95 % CI:...
